We had an exciting day recently here at our roastery. After years of buying directly, we took things a step further last year by importing over 90% of our own #coffee. Here's a look at our latest shipment arriving from our long-time coffee producer in Peru. With costs at record highs, having full control of our #supplychain became essential to keep paying fair prices to our producers while maintaining quality and stable customer pricing.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!🎄 Thank you so much for all your support, social shares, and most importantly your enthusiasm about our #coffee. Much has changed in the past year, but we are proud that our business has grown sustainably while staying true to our core values. Despite ongoing uncertainty and rising costs, we’ve remained committed to purchasing the same high quality coffee year-on-year. This consistency has provided a reliable and sustainable income for our growers and producers, some of whom we’ve been working with for almost six years. Our team has grown to 12, and from our home on Denbies Wine Estate we’ve imported, roasted, and distributed over 60 tonnes of coffee. Highlights of the year included the release of our 2023/24 Impact Report; launching our latest packaging designs; and exciting new coffee such as the Revival Espresso Blend, 12 delicious and varied Discovery Coffees, and our 2024 Christmas Blend. Another highlight was being shortlisted for the Surrey Business Awards Company of the Year. We also took our Christmas and summer parties to the next level! While challenges persist in the coffee industry, we remain dedicated to responsible growth, keeping our customers and producers at the heart of every decision. We are incredibly grateful to our amazing community of coffee lovers, partners, and suppliers, for their unwavering support through these changing times. See you in 2025.

Another highlight while visiting Finca Las Cruces, Quinchia, Risaraldo, Colombia in January, was riding a Mule through beautiful coffee country :) Although I grew up with horses, riding a Mule was a first for me! At Chimney Fire Coffee we have been working with Finca Las Cruzes for the past four years. I have always loved roasting this coffee because it is simply so delicious! Now, having been at the farm, I have deepened my affinity with this beautiful coffee thanks to the brother as sister team Esnayder & Liliana whose passion and dedication for their land, producing delicious coffee and the family history attached to it is very close to my heart. 💕 This trip, the people as well as the land have most definitely enriched my Life!

Storytime 👍🏼 Last week I went on a tour of a local coffee bean roastery which also happens to fuel the caffeine needs of its local university. But, the connection to the university wasn’t simply one of linear production, it was much more circular. A staff member told me that there were currently 5 live academic research projects taking place around the cultivation, production, and sustainability of the coffee beans. Of course, the importance of understanding the origins of what we consume - and how academia can play a role in amplifying the voices and practices of farmers and producers - is striking. But, there was something really poignant about this symbiotic relationship (i.e. the coffee that fuels the academics so they can research the coffee bean production that makes the coffee that fuels the academics etc) that has stayed with me. It reminded me that while universities serve their (local and global) communities those communities, in turn, serve universities by providing the vital components (yes - coffee is vital) for universities to do their work which, in turn, helps communities. 🌿 A big thank you to the Chimney Fire Coffee I B Corp™ roastery team for the behind-the-scenes insights, demonstrations, incredible flat whites and coffee art ☕

WHAT IS FRESHNESS IN COFFEE? As a #specialitycoffee roaster, we are often asked questions regarding freshness and roast dates - what it means for us, and what it means for the consumer. In our latest blog by Sam Pearce, we’ll dive into the question of what is freshness in #coffee through all stages of the coffee-producing process, from origin, to roastery, to your kitchen table. If you want a TL;DR, scroll to the bottom of the page. But first, a little background as to what coffee beans actually are, and how they are transported across the world to our roastery in #Surrey ☕ Have a read... https://lnkd.in/e5zREzRJ
