We gathered as a Changing Futures Plymouth team today to do what we do best - connect. Everyone brought a dish, including ☃️ muffins from Emma. We were a particular fan of Shona's Christmas earrings, and the message on changing the narrative. Well done everyone on all your hard work. We wish you a peaceful festive period!

Working with systems, services and people to improve outcomes for adults experiencing multiple disadvantage
About us
Changing Futures is a programme jointly funded (until March 2025) by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) and The National Lottery Community Fund. It sits within the Community Connections team at Plymouth City Council. The team work closely with The Plymouth Alliance and a range of other local partners and aims to improve outcomes for adults experiencing multiple disadvantage, including combinations of: • Homelessness • Problematic substance use • Mental health issues • Domestic abuse • Contact with the criminal justice system. The programme embeds co-production with people with experience of multiple disadvantage across its work, to create the culture supports an integrated network of trauma-informed services. This enables organisations and systems in Plymouth to learn and work together in the belief that Plymouth is better working as an Alliance - driving improved outcomes for people who experience multiple disadvantage, as well as improved services and efficient use of resources.

It was a joy to attend our Plymouth City Council Community Connections end-of-year event, and to see so many of our dedicated colleagues we've collaborated with over the course of 2024. Anna Moss & Gemma Gowan presented some golden nuggets from our year & we handed out postcards with our infographics. It was wonderful to share some good news stories!

Our Learning Exchange at Shekinah Mission Plymouth held their End of Term party on Friday. They drew up a fantastic timeline of all the wide-ranging courses they've delivered - for people to add their feedback, which included: "Not only have the various sessions been amazing but your professional yet friendly advice, support and interest have provided a safe, relaxing environment which has helped me to become calmer and peaceful in the outside world." Thank you to everyone who has made this terrific term a reality.

This month, we brought together a range of organisations including Trevi, BCHA, Plymouth City Council, The Salvation Army Devonport Lifehouse, and Improving Lives Plymouth, to listen and learn collectively about, “System reflections on our approach to safe accommodation for women.” Fleeing domestic abuse is one of the main reasons women become homeless. Thank you to everyone who joined us at this first conversation, for sharing their critical insights on this important topic.

Over the past couple of weeks, we have shared learnings from our “Your Story” project (formerly passport project) at the Making Every Adult Matter (MEAM) Learning Hubs in London and Sheffield. Alongside Single Homeless Project in Camden, we explored passport models as a tool to reduce re-traumatisation in services and as a way to promote culture change in assessment practice. Thank you to MEAM for inviting us! If you would like to learn more about the Changing Futures Your Story project, please reach out to either: [email protected] or [email protected]

We're pleased to share the second of three films capturing learning about Improving Lives Plymouth's Peer Research Network. This film explores the work the peer researchers have done, and the impact they are having on services and systems supporting those experiencing multiple disadvantage across and around Plymouth. https://lnkd.in/eM9J8Vs4 Work on the third film which shares what is next for the peer researchers is underway.
