Supporting local communities 💙 With the support of Energy for Tomorrow (EfT), the NCRC at Trafford Hall has been able to launch the ‘Shaping Sustainable Futures’ programme, aiming to give young people an introduction to the green sector. The programme helps them to develop a range of skills and learn about employment opportunities within the energy sector, whilst supporting the NCRC’s move toward #NetZero. Getting bus(y) charging🔌 We’ve signed an innovative EV charging partnership with First Bus which will see our fleet of EV vans given access to First Bus’ rapid charging infrastructure at bus depots nationwide. Starting with a trial at the company’s Leicester depot, the partnership was launched by Transport Minister Lilian Greenwood MP, who joined representatives from First Bus and Centrica to highlight the critical role the EV infrastructure will play in reducing emissions and promoting sustainable transport. While buses are out on the road during the day, the infrastructure will be used by British Gas vans to charge quickly and conveniently, allowing engineers to spend more time helping customers. The charity also offers a wide range of activities from art to basketball to give children a creative outlet away from home life. Championing our carers... 💙 Two members of our Carers Network – Marie McCann and Tricia O’Neill – have been shortlisted for the ‘Carer Champion Award’ at the Carer Positive 10th Anniversary Awards. Both colleagues are advocates for carers rights and have recently featured on BBC Breakfast and in Scottish Parliament to add their voices to the campaign for better employer policies for carers. Centrica has been leading the call for greater support for working carers and we've implemented supportive policies including additional paid leave, flexible working arrangements and MyCare 24/7 - which provides additional emotional support for our colleagues who have caring responsibilities. 🚀 Exciting News! Within their new seven-year contract with the Welsh Government’s Warm Homes scheme, British Gas & PH Jones are celebrating the first installation of the contract 🌍 Michelle Symonds, Community Engagement Manager, visited the home of the first customer in Newport. The customer shared how the newly installed air source heat pump, solar PV, battery storage, and improved ventilation have transformed her home, making it warmer and more energy efficient. She expressed her gratitude, saying “I honestly can’t believe the difference. Everyone at Nest has been really lovely, my house is warm, and I’m not worried about the Winter.” The Warm Homes Nest scheme, launched in 2011, has already helped over 60,000 low-income households in Wales with free energy efficiency measures and provided advice to over 210,000 households. The new contract will focus on low-carbon technologies, aiming to improve energy efficiency in up to 1,000 properties per year. ROSS KIRWAN, Head of Nest, emphasised the positive impact on customers’ lives, while Andy Sutton from Sero highlighted the importance of decarbonising homes to meet the Welsh Government’s net zero 2050 target.
