💡 BSB Chairman Spotlight: Stephen Ville 💡 🎤 How did you start in the baking industry? I graduated from University of Sussex and joined Rank Hovis as Production Management Trainee, spending 6 years flour milling and working my way up to Mill Manager at the Ramsgate Mill. I then gained an MBA at London Business School before joining Allied Bakeries (ABF) as General Manager of the plant bakery in Orpington, where they made sliced bread and rolls for own label and the Allinson and Kingsmill brands. 🎤 Bravest moment of your career? There are 2 notable ones - buying The Bread Roll Company out of Receivership with support from my wife, building the business up by creating 12 regional depots supplying fresh bread, rolls, pastries, cakes etc to the food service market. Then being brave enough to realise we needed a change of business model, driven by the recession, meaning a focus change to supermarket own label and frozen food service. Bringing on new customers including Sainsburys, Tesco, Asda, Aldi, Budgens, Ocado, Brakes, Bidvest, Greencore and Mitchell & Butler. 🎤 Most notable product launches? On the retailer side, launching TTD Brioche Burger bun and TTD sourdough with Sainsburys. On the food service front speciality rolls and breads supplied to royalty at Royal Ascot, as well as a market leading vegan burger bun to Brakes. 🎤 What are your key goals for the BSB? 1. Continue successful conferences by inviting interesting and inspiring high-quality speakers to the bi-annual conferences. 2. Increase BSB members and delegate numbers to conferences. 3. Improve BSB profile via website, LinkedIn, and industry contacts. 4. Draw up a plan on how best to use the company sponsorship money to support young bakers in the industry.
