For over seven years, #BMSIreland has proudly supported St. Vincent De Paul through our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme by participating in the Christmas Tree Giving Appeal. Across our sites, our generous colleagues collect Christmas baubles from our trees, each representing a gift for a specific age group. Our team then purchases gifts for the indicated age, contributing to the charity's gift appeal programme to ensure that families and children in need receive a gift in time for Christmas. #CommunitySupport #CSR #CommunityEngagement

Lung cancer is the third most common cancer in the UK, yet it’s often diagnosed late. Innovation is essential; even the smallest of care improvements can significantly impact patients' lives. Earlier this year, we partnered with Health Service Journal (HSJ) to bring together leading UK experts and produce a report exploring solutions that are evolving treatment pathways. An example of this included in our report is from the Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance One-Stop Lung Cancer Clinic, which has pioneered shared decision-making as part of its care for non-small cell lung cancer patients. As a result, the clinic has seen: 🫁 Patient one-year survival rates increase by ~10%. 📅 Fast-tracked treatment decisions, cut to just five days from initial referral. Professor Matthew Evison, Consultant in Respiratory Medicine and Chair of the roundtable with HSJ, commented: "Shared decision-making is crucial in curative-intent, multimodality treatment for non-small cell lung cancer, as it empowers patients to make informed choices while optimising outcomes. "The Greater Manchester One-Stop Lung Cancer Clinic exemplifies this approach, integrating multidisciplinary expertise to expedite treatment decisions, reduce complications, and improve survival rates." Want to learn more about how shared decision-making can be implemented, as well as other expert insights on diagnosis, biomarker testing, and patient selection? #BMSUK is committed to advancing health equity and improving public health outcomes, ensuring that #nooneisleftbehind. This year, we celebrated significant milestones, including the launch of Cancer Equals and a keynote speech on Championing Diversity in Clinical Trials. Most recently, our Black Organisation for Leadership Development (BOLD), Organisation of Latino Achievement (OLA) and Pan Asian Network (PAN) People and Business Resource Group (PBRG) Uxbridge Chapter hosted an insightful event highlighting the critical role of #biomarkers in understanding diverse populations and in enhancing decision-making in medicine. Biomarkers are essential in drug discovery and development, providing insights into disease mechanisms and treatment responses. While biomarkers are not new, the use of surrogate biomarkers presents challenges in medicine discovery and treatment prioritization. Therefore, we must harness technological advancements to provide data-driven solutions. Dr. Elsa Zekeng, CEO and Founder of SökerData, shared her journey, Söker Data's aims, and the importance of understanding genetic and genomic data in underrepresented communities. Her insights reinforce our commitment to patient-centric approaches and the need for inclusive data to drive equitable healthcare solutions. Together, we continue to strive for a future where #HealthEquity is a reality for all.

At #BMSIreland, we are committed to sustainability. This year, we partnered with Tidy Towns in Blanchardstown – an initiative sponsored by the Department of Rural and Community Development to support local focus on sustainability and biodiversity, to further evolve our investment and commitment to the communities where we live and work. Over forty volunteers from our team went out into the community to clean up local canals, parks, and communities, supporting the nationwide effort to make towns and villages better places to live, work, and visit. #CommunityEngagement #Sustainability #Biodiversity

We’re proud to have joined in celebrating International Day of Persons with Disabilities (3 December). It’s a reminder to embrace diversity, champion inclusion, and break down barriers to accessibility for all. Our Disability Advancement Workplace Network (DAWN) People and Business Resource Group (PBRG), supports our commitment to fostering an open and inclusive workplace where colleagues with disabilities can thrive. We’re proud to be certified as a Disability Confident Leader – Level 3 in the UK government’s Disability Confident scheme. To mark #InternationalDayofPersonsWithDisabilities, some of our sites across the UK and Ireland were lit up in vibrant purple - a symbol of our ongoing support and celebration of the disability community. Together, let’s continue building a future where everyone belongs and feels valued 💜 #BMSUK #BMSIreland #InclusionMatters #Inclusivity #WorkplaceEquality

We launched the #CancerEquals campaign in April. Our ambition was to shine a light on the unacceptable delays in diagnosis and variations in treatment experiences of people with cancer. Our national research put the unheard patient voice front and centre; revealing several shocking statistics on the lived experiences of cancer inequalities in the UK. A collection of powerful patient stories has helped us to spark conversation and encourage other stakeholders who are focusing on #HealthInequalities to join us in identifying solutions to the challenges highlighted in our ‘1,000 voices, not 1’ report. We want to say thank you to everyone who collaborated with us to get this far and we look forward to progressing this important work in partnership with stakeholders from across the UK health system. Recognition at the Pharmaceutical Market Excellence Awards (#PMEA2024) last month - winning both the Patient Centricity and Excellence in Public Health categories – was a proud moment and one we are excited to build on in 2025. Domestic abuse is a pervasive issue that affects individuals across all demographics, often occurring behind closed doors and leaving lasting emotional, physical, and psychological scars. As a company, #BMSUK is dedicated to raising awareness of this issue and ensuring our colleagues understand the signs of domestic abuse. Our aim is that anyone who is affected feels empowered to seek help. Our initiatives over the past year include manager training on recognising domestic abuse as well as awareness and education sessions for all our teams. These were led by our Domestic Abuse Support Group, which is made up of passionate colleagues from across our sites. They have also championed a recent campaign to place discrete QR code stickers in bathroom stalls in our buildings. These direct colleagues to a dedicated resource featuring a Safe Space widget for confidential support and information. These initiatives are deeply rooted in our commitment to fostering a safe and supportive work environment, where every colleague can flourish. Together, let’s foster a culture of support, understanding, and awareness.
