Bosch UK is proud to continue supporting the WMG Academies through our engaging and practical STEM activities. Our STEM Schools Outreach Coordinator, Barrie Flemming, delivered two interactive sessions to students at the Solihull Academy. The sessions focused on the transition away from combustion engine vehicles, exploring the topic of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) versus Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles (HFCVs). The students delved into key questions around achieving Net Carbon Zero: - Is Battery Electric power the best solution for all types of transport? - Could Hydrogen be a viable, ecological, and Net Carbon Zero energy alternative? In hands-on group activities, students assembled Hydrogen Fuel Cell models to experience the process of electrolysis firsthand. They observed how Hydrogen and Oxygen recombine in a PEM cell to create electricity, powering their models. To conclude, each group prepared and delivered a short presentation outlining the pros and cons of both power systems, showcasing their understanding and insights into these critical topics shaping the future of transport. #STEM #BoschUK #Hydrogen

Throughout November, Ben B., alongside colleagues Alfred Wilcox, Milly Davies, and Oliver Holyland from Bosch Engineering GmbH, took on an incredible challenge in support of Movember. Together, they covered as many kilometers as possible, raising £1 for every kilometer completed. For Ben, the cause is deeply personal: “Movember has always been important to me as it helps to raise awareness for crucial topics like prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health. These issues affect millions of men worldwide, yet they often don’t receive the attention they deserve. This year, Movember has been particularly important for me as I have a close family friend battling cancer, and I wanted to take the opportunity to support him.” Alfie shared a similar passion for the movement: “Movember has been personal for me, having faced my own mental health struggles and seen men around me do the same. Running 500km with my colleagues at Bosch was a tough but rewarding challenge, reminding me why this cause matters—helping men find the strength to keep going and breaking the stigma together.” The team's efforts not only raised funds but also promoted vital conversations about men’s health, demonstrating the resilience and community spirit of Bosch associates. How can hydrogen power data centres, and industry? Our new whitepaper, which is being launched in partnership with Ceres and Centrica, explains everything. Like traditional thermal generation, an SOFC unit uses a gas to create power. Whether this is hydrogen, biomethane or natural gas it does it without combustion to provide highly efficient, quiet, clean power. Ben Richardson, head of electrolysers & SOFC at Bosch UK, said: “One of hydrogen’s strongest use cases is to use it for power. Coupled with local hydrogen production this not only bolsters the UK’s energy security but it provides power when renewables such and wind and solar cannot.” Click here to read the whitepaper: https://bit.ly/3Zc8Tvd
