Yesterday we held an excellent and wide-ranging forum meeting - our @alva_uk Heads of Sustainability forum. The 6th ALVA forum meeting in just 2 weeks. Generously hosted by @RoyalAlbertHall, we heard from them, @kewgardens @LeedsMuseums @HRP_palaces @UniofOxford GLAM @rbo_org and, special guest Jeff Garner of @prophetik fresh from the European premiere of his film the night before, talking about the literal toxicity of the fashion industry, sustainable fashion and his own advocacy work. Big agenda, big issues and a big turnout.

Delighted to attend my first Association of Leading Visitor Attractions board meeting today. Fittingly, it was at Westminster Abbey in the historic Cheneygates where Elizabeth Woodville lived whilst claiming sanctuary. Could only find some Tudors commemorated though! 😬

With a day to go I thought I'd share some of the insights that DIDN'T make it into our presentation for the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions Benchmarking Conference tomorrow... 1) Don't assume that all first time visitors will visit your website - only 57% visit the attraction's website before visiting, meaning that many new visitors will show up with limited knowledge about your site and it's facilities... 🤷. So it's essential to check knowledge at the point of entry and provide key info. 2) Pre-visit planning is particularly important for families - 65% of first time visitors check the website before visiting. This audience also has the most complex needs - parties are more likely to include a member who is neuro-diverse or who has special dietary requirements, in addition to needing information about baby change/ buggy friendly routes etc. 🚼 So if this is your target audience, ensure that visit planning information is easy to find and detailed. 3) Under 25 year old attraction visitors are the most price sensitive, while 65+ are the least price sensitive and this is NOT explained by a difference in entrance price (based on concessions entry). 💳 This raises the question of whether discounts for under 25s need to be added or extended - potentially offset by reducing/ removing OAP concessions. These insights are all extracted from the ALVA visitor experience benchmarking research. The entry price for subscription is just £875 (plus VAT) for an online survey of your site, plus rich benchmarks. On site research is also available. Do get in touch if you're interested... #visitorattractions #bvabdrc

My camera reel is so full of photos of slides, my brain is so full of stats, and I'm feeling very much energised after a fascinating day at Association of Leading Visitor Attractions Benchmarking yesterday. I am immensely grateful for the 'office' - this big stone shed at the centre of York - which provides a place for reflection to let this all percolate as I await copies of the proper slides...

🎃 3 things I learned from my evening and morning at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London: 1⚡️The Magic of Genuine Engagement: 5 days after event (and many Ravenclaw cocktails later) I still remember the names of 3 team members who made my evening unforgettable. 🧙♂️Ben guided me as I flew my broom and then on the Hogwarts Express, ensuring I was having as much fun as a first-year discovering the Great Hall. 🧙♀️Leah, observant as Professor McGonagall, spotted that I missed the wand combat lessons and organized a new one just for me. And finally 🪄Harry, who turned 19 at midnight. I can hands down say Harry has given me the best customer service I've ever experienced. He created an environment which felt authentic and comfortable and where we felt like the most important people he'd ever meet. We chatted, laughed, and he went out of his way to help with my lost cards and split bags, all while staying professional. And his name is Harry, go figure! 2⚡️ Consistency is Key: As Samantha Potts and I spent a few hundred pounds in the shop the next morning 🙈, we observed all the assistants. One (I think her name was Mitch) engaged with every single customer with genuine care and curiosity about their visit and what they chose to buy, in good Luna Lovegood style. She gracefully managed long queues while prioritizing each person like they were VIPs. She didn’t know we were watching. When people deliver this kind of service when no one's looking, you know you've built the right culture. 3⚡️ Behind the Scenes Magic: As Geoff Spooner puts it, the customer experiences magic, but behind the scenes it's not magic, it's sheer hard work. All the WB team members were always on full alert; they had no other agenda or priority apart from ensuring every single one of us left feeling like we had just experienced the best evening of our lives. That's not easy - it requires the right people in the right jobs with the right tools, feeling empowered to do what's right for their customers. It was incredibly inspirational to experience this and learn from the best. I could also have cried when they brought in Art Director Gary Tomkins to tell us how he made magic happen on screen - like getting a personal tour from Dumbledore himself! From a hardcore Harry Potter fan and Ravenclaw nerd, I will literally never forget this experience. Thank you to Geoff Spooner, Sarah Roots, Mark Douglas (the best table host in history) and the whole WB team for making magic happen, and to Bernard Donoghue OBE, Angela Ham MBE and Association of Leading Visitor Attractions for the opportunity and another unforgettable Council Meeting. ❤️ Maggie Smith, who brought McGonagall to life - her legacy will be as enduring as the magic of Hogwarts itself.

Professional Actress. Director & Head of Talent at LCA Academy & Agency

Last week was such a busy week, so I thought I'd share a few of the things I get up to as a Director of LCA - so here is a week in my life ...! 1) Subs & admin! Every day I'm on my emails, submitting actors for jobs, checking submissions and liaising with Casting Directors, Parents and Producers! 2) Shooting! I was on set Wednesday & Thursday last week shooting for a jewellery company and for Shark beauty & home - it’s great to be on set as often as possible as it means I can share my knowledge from filming to our students and clients - they get first hand information and advice. I've been busy lately and done 5 professional shoots in the last 2 weeks alone! 3) Clients! After filming I bumped into our Client Sam on the same train home - he'd been in London for 2 days shooting a Christmas Supermarket TV Commercial! We love chatting & socialising with our clients - time to start planning our Agency Christmas drinks! 4) The Events of all Events!! I was so lucky to be invited to an event at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London which had been organised with the Warner Bros team by Angela Ham MBE She certainly won the 'coolest mum' award for this! 5) Dinner! We had dinner in the Great Hall which was amazing! I met so many lovely people who are all members of Association of Leading Visitor Attractions. Thanks to everyone for making me so welcome. It was great to network and there was lots of chat about the new Harry Potter TV series - we've got 28 children currently auditioning for it! 6) Classes - Our classes ran on Thursday evening & Saturday which was lots of fun! We concluded our ‘Inside Out 2’ work with the minis and juniors, they were filmed performing and we sent out videos to the parents and our seniors took part in an improvisation and audition workshop! 7) Theatre - We saw our wonderful client Stacey Lynn Crowe sing the roof off at the Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham. Stacey is currently touring with the Chicago Blues Brothers - but her solo performances were absolutely unreal! We are so proud and honoured to have her as a client at LCA! 8) TV Adverts - We love spotting our clients on the TV - and the new advert came out for Iceland with our clients Giles, Michelle & Taya all featuring. Another proud moment! 9) Workshops - We launched of our next two workshops which are free for our students. We have Claudia Grace McKell who is a Director & Producer coming to classes this weekend, and then Netflix & Disney Actor Jayden Revri joining us later in the month. 10) Planning - Its LCA's 5th Anniversary in November- so we need to have a party right?! So I've come up with lots of ideas, and hopefully Ange will make them all happen! So it was a great 7 days, and I know the next 7 days will be just the same - every day is busy and different and always enjoyable and and we've got so many exciting things ahead!
