We were delighted to welcome Tim Hawking to officially open the Hawking Building this week. Named after Professor Stephen Hawking, who had a long-standing relationship with the Science Museum Group, this vast building is now home to over 300,000 historic objects. Today our first public tours of the Hawking Building took visitors behind the scenes of the Science Museum Group Collection to reveal fascinating objects, from a space-flown telescope to a machine that explored our ocean floors. With tour dates now available between March-May 2025, don’t miss your chance to walk among our unique collection. Book your tickets now: https://lnkd.in/eCujNhDM

Today we bid farewell to our amazing 2024 intern cohort and what a time it has been! We want to thank 10,000 Black Interns for connecting us with such incredible talent. And thank you Alexandra Brown for running the most incredible programme. Over the last couple of months, our interns have brought innovation and creativity to every corner of Science Museum Group. Their presence and their impactful project work has been felt throughout the organisation, from: ✨ Writing gallery text for new exhibition installations and working alongside curators to ensure its engagement with our community 🌿 Analysing the energy consumption across SMG in order to reducing energy usage and cost at the Railway Museum 🔎 Conducting a comprehensive analysis of cyber threats targeting the organisation and suggesting possible solutions. And so much more! We are so proud of everything the interns have accomplished during their time with us and while this chapter is closing, we cannot wait to see all the remarkable things they will achieve in the future. For those looking to follow in their footsteps, applications for the 10,000 Black Interns program are now open. If you're eager to make an impact and gain invaluable experience, don't miss this opportunity! 🚀 Thank you, interns of 2024, we will miss you ✨ Learn more: https://lnkd.in/exgRy8Nw

Meet Jasmin Taylor, our Curatorial Intern. In her role Jasmin has gained hands-on experience behind-the-scenes of researching and proposing elements for an upcoming gallery, from working on acquisition cases in order to install new objects to managing a creative project. Through her work, Jasmin has become an audience-focused storyteller with a vision to pitch new ideas and build strong narratives.🚀 Bonus Fun Facts: Jasmin's favourite pastime outside of work is fashion blogging or going to concerts/festivals ✨ Her dream dinner with a fictional character would be with Hermione Granger because "I loved the Harry Potter franchise growing up. She was my favourite character and I don't think Harry would've been successful without her! #femaleempowerment" 🎬 She is currently reading "Tea, Coffee and Chocolate" by Melanie King, which is about the history of caffeine & those specific beverages in the UK ☕
