London Vet Show & BVA Live has been a great opportunity for us catch up with people in our network and to live our values. Jamie Crittall and Charlie Barton unveiled their new business - Boop - definitely a venture to be watched. Wendy Furness was part of the panel discussing ‘Going it alone: setting up as an entrepreneur’ alongside brilliant entrepreneurs Molly Fiander Ben Sweeney and Thom Jenkins chaired by Adrian Nelson-Pratt BVSc DipCoaching MIOEE MRCVS . When we started we said we wanted to have fun too, so the smiles and discussions at our get together for lunch with Dr Mark Binns Jolian Howell Philippe Moreau Christophe Magaud Agnes Delauche DrVetMed, DipACVIM, MBA, CertCIM Gavin Mitchell Julian Bryan Arthur Redpath Michael Colgan and John Taylor let us do that. Sometimes in business it’s the intangibles that the difference and in creating Animal Health Angels we wanted to create and develop an environment for innovation to thrive and for people to support that. We have all left with a smile on our faces. Safe travels home folks #entrepreneurship #innovation #animalhealth
LVS is always a highlight in the vet world calendar. Some of our members attended the inaugural London Vet Show & BVA Live #annivators event and it was a great opportunity to discuss the emerging trends in our world. We look forwards to seeing more of our members and some of the founders and their companies we have invested in over the next two days. Animal Health Angels has created a network professionals with an interest in supporting innovation in animal health as well as developing a community of like minded people. Founders Wendy Furness Dr Mark Binns Jolian Howell Jamie Crittall Philippe Moreau Christophe Magaud are here for the next few days. We are happy to meet up for a conversation 🚀 if you are interested in joining us as an investor and want to support innovative businesses in animal health and meet an interesting group of people 🦄 if you are an early stage animal health company looking for guidance or investment then do arrange a meeting at the show with a founder 🏆to catch up with the companies we are already working with. Exciting times at the minute - there is a lot of innovation in animal health.

A number of our members are supporting Veterinary Health Innovation Engine and the great work they do supporting early stage businesses in animal health. Here Wendy Furness discusses entrepreneurship and investment alongside female founders Eve Hanks Dr Georgia Fleet and Heather Sanders.
👩🔬 Women make up 17% of startup founders in the UK. We're proud that over 1/2 of our startups in our vHive Incubator are founded by women. Earlier this year, we brought together our female founders and leaders from our vHive cohort, Co-Founder of the Animal Health Angels together with Surrey Women's Entrepreneurship Network to discuss about the challenges and unique opportunities being a female leader brings in the Animal Health sector. This candid conversation between Eve Hanks, Dr Georgia Fleet, Wendy Furness and Heather Sanders provides great insight into their journeys into entrepreneurship and investment and we hope will be a great inspiration for future budding startup founders. Massive thanks to Kat Mack and Oluwatobi Balogun, MBA from SWEN for spearheading, filming and editing this video. Sharing for our network. MI:RNA Diagnostics are one of the companies our members have invested in and this is a great opportunity for stakeholders who are interested in Johne’s Disease
For farmers across the UK Johne’s Disease continues to present a significant challenge. An incurable and highly contagious condition primarily affecting cows and sheep, the disease can cost a farmer £200 per cow per year – sometimes amounting to 50% of a farmer’s profits. On 9th September we’re bringing together a collective of experts and leading practitioners for a collaborative workshop, looking at how we can use diagnostics and management strategies to tackle this disease. Speakers will include representatives of The Scottish Government, The Moredun Group, SRUC School of Veterinary Medicine, Biobest, Johne's Action Group, IDEXX, Myhealthyherd .com Ltd, CIEL - UK Agri-Tech Centre, PAN Livestock Services Ltd, Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization (VIDO) CHeCS, and MI:RNA Diagnostics. Aimed at farmers, vets, academics and industry experts alike, the event will explore ways to address Johne Disease and help UK agribusiness to become more sustainable and resilient. If you’re interested in joining us virtually, register now via this link: https://lnkd.in/eUYyJD6F For those who can’t attend live, the event will also be recorded and shared with everyone who has registered.
Being passionate about Animal Health takes many guises for us. One of our members Tony Noble is raising money for Nature's SAFE - Saving Animals From Extinction (Registered Charity) an amazing organisation saving cell lines for animals at risk of extinction. Any donations for this would be gratefully recieved - all the very best to Tony and the team.
As you may have seen, four members of our team are heading out to Kenya in 3 weeks to lay the groundwork for our charity’s next big step: establishing international conservation hubs in collaboration with local conservation authorities and scientists. As an additional fundraiser, the team will be climbing Mt Kilimanjaro to raise funds for this next phase in our charity’s journey! We owe a huge thank you to our sponsors so far for this trip: BOVA UK, Testhim, Care Fertility, Waterhouse Feeds, and our headline sponsor AC Jackson. Their support is making our vision a reality. To support the climbers, you can make a personal donation through any of the following JustGiving pages: Verity & Zoé: https://lnkd.in/eYcd9qYP Tullis: https://lnkd.in/e93mzGrM Tony: https://lnkd.in/e56EwsDU Read more about this trip and our vision for the future here: https://lnkd.in/eBeQMAFi #naturessafeafrica 📷 Thomson's gazelle at Mount Kilimanjaro © Sergey Novikov
Great news today about the continuation of EIS/SEIS
Message from Jenny Tooth OBE about the continuation of EIS/SEIS: We are delighted to let you know that the UK Government has finally been informed by the EC of their approval under EU State Aid rules of the request for the continuation of the EIS and SEIS schemes and VCT scheme from the original Sunset Clause ending the schemes in 2025 to April 2035. The schemes are approved in their entirety, also including the Knowledge Intensive EIS Scheme. This approval is set out in the EC published document which you can read, particularly referencing the detailed decisions from para 102 onwards: https://lnkd.in/edfDDG4Q We will provide any further information received in due course, but I am sure you will agree that this an excellent start to the Bank Holiday Weekend and gives renewed certainty to investors and entrepreneurs and a great boost to our work across the UK in supporting investment in entrepreneurship and innovation going forwards.
