About us

Anglian Water supply water and water recycling services to more than six million domestic and business customers in the east of England and Hartlepool. Our services are at the heart of every single family and community in our region. We clean water to the highest standard, deliver it to millions of homes, and carefully manage it to ensure it never runs out. We’re the largest water and water recycling company in England and Wales by geographic area. We’re also one of the driest regions in the country, with just 600 millimetres of rain each year, on average a third less than the rest of England. In fact some areas have a lower annual rainfall than Jerusalem. That’s why it’s vital that we look after the water that we’ve got.

  • We have today received Ofwat’s Final Determination of our proposed Business Plan for 2025-2030. We will now take time to assess the detail of Ofwat’s response.      Our proposed plan has one of the lowest bill rises yet one of the biggest investment programmes – worth £11bn in five years.     Our investment programme over the next five years and beyond 2030 will create thousands of skilled, well-paid jobs in the region, which in turn will enable essential growth in housing, commerce and industry. This puts Anglian Water at the heart of one of the most thriving and economically vibrant regions of our country.       Our plan will support vulnerable customers and deliver transformational infrastructure for the nation that customers and the environment want, such as enabling two new reservoirs to supply nearly three quarters of a million people and alleviate flooding and deliver environmental improvements.    The scale of the plan reflects the significant factors affecting the eastern England region – it is the fastest growing region with more people and businesses calling it home, including a critical agriculture economy, feeding the nation and burgeoning green energy industry that is water intensive. It is on the frontline of climate change, in one of the driest areas but also predominantly below sea-level posing flooding challenges.    Over the coming weeks we will be reviewing the feedback in detail and continuing discussions with Ofwat as needed. For now, find out how this investment will be spent ➡️ https://lnkd.in/et-9XzA9   #FinalDetermination #Investment #Growth

  • At Anglian Water, we're proud to support WaterAid with it's mission to reach everyone, everywhere with clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene. When a community can access clean water for the first time, it creates a powerful ripple, saving lives and improving people’s health, education and livelihoods. Without it, children are frequently sick and miss school. And parents are too ill, or busy caring for their families, to work. Making clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene part of normal everyday life for everyone is not just a dream. It is achievable.  Some of our colleagues recently visited Nepal to see the progress being made on The Beacon Project. Funded by Anglian Water since 2017, this project aims to improve water supply and sewage systems for every person living in Lahan, a small town in south-eastern Nepal. Our Director of Strategic Asset Management Siân Thomas reflects on her trip to Nepal and our work with #WaterAid🎥 As well as supporting countries overseas, we also have a range of programmes that aim to make a positive impact in the local communities within the region we serve: annual-integrated-report-2024.pdf #Charity #WaterPoverty #Infrastructure

I’ve been feeling a little reflective after a recent visit to Nepal to see the work of the Beacon Project with Anglian Water Services colleagues and WaterAid, ably hosted by WaterAid Nepal. It’s a challenging time for the UK water industry and a particularly big week with the publication of the Final Determination on 19th December. We’re fortunate in the UK with our universal access to clean water and sanitation - something we often forget. I couldn’t help but share a few thoughts. #WASH #BeaconProject #Infrastructure #Equality

  • As we prepare to tuck into the festivities this Christmas, whether you're a household or business, please remember the impact that leftover food can have on drains and pipes. We all have a responsibility to keep the sewers clear of blockages, which if left to build up, can result in flooding of homes and business. Not to mention the costly impact it can have on businesses. In commercial kitchens, leftover fats, oils and grease (FOG) is inevitable but blocked drains don't have to be. Alongside our partners ECAS - Environmental Compliance and Services Ltd, we work closely with food service establishments (FSE) to educate kitchen staff on how to properly dispose of, or reuse, fats, oils and greases. This month we reached a significant milestone in our work with FSE's across the region, as we celebrated the prevention of five million litres of FOG from entering our sewer. This vital work delivered with ECAS not only protects homes and businesses, but also the environment. So as we head into Christmas, remember to reuse leftovers for another festive feast, or just bin it to avoid a blockage in the pipes and an unexpected plumbing bill. For household customers, find out how you can properly dispose of fats, oil and greases here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eeCNtaDa For food service establishments, find out what steps you can take to ensure fat and food wasta avoids the sewers here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eJ_H58Dw #JustBinIt #WaterRecycling

  • Over the last five years we've delivered huge infrastructure projects across our region, thanks to our Anglian Water @one Alliance. We were one of the first utilities to set up an alliancing model over twenty years ago and since then, have seen first hand the benefits of bringing together experts from across the supply chain. Alliancing has allowed us to reimagine the traditional way of devising, costing and delivering projects by encouraging innovative thinking, advancement of new technology, and collaborative working between partners. As we head into the next AMP, our alliances are gearing up for another busy five years developing essential infrastructure in the East of England. If approved by Ofwat later this month, our 2025-2030 business plan outlines over £2.6bn worth of capital infrastructure work to be carried out by our #oneAlliance. From building new storm tanks to connecting new housing developments and even contributing to national infrastructure projects. Take a look at some of the projects delivered by our alliance in AMP7⬇️ #Alliance #Investment #Growth

  • Across the world we are witnessing more severe weather events like the recent Storm Darragh, leading to widespread flooding, extreme heat and increased risk of drought. This combined with unprecedented population growth, is adding significant pressure to our water services and we must adapt our operations to cope. In his recent blog, our Head of Asset Management Matt Humphrey CEng MICE, explains how we're improving asset resilience in the face of climate change.   #ClimateChange #Flooding #Investment

  • Our water supply isn’t infinite and as temperatures rise and the population continues to grow, there is a pressing need to think differently about how we can protect our most precious resource. Our CEO Mark Thurston recently took a trip to Bury St Edmunds to visit one of our largest infrastructure projects - the strategic pipeline project.   We've recently passed the halfway mark for pipelaying - a critical milestone in this large-scale project. Once complete, the pipeline will help supply millions of litres of water for generations to come. In this video, Mark shares the latest updates on the project, as well as what to expect in the years to come and the importance of water reaching homes, schools and business in one of the fastest growing regions in our country.   #WaterResources #CleanWater #MajorInfrastructure

Chief Executive Officer at Anglian Water, whose purpose is to bring environmental and social prosperity to the region it serves through its commitment to ‘love every drop’.

Of all the reasons why I was interested in the role at Anglian Water Services, the scale and ambition of their capital investment programme probably stood out as the thing that made the difference. To meet the government’s agenda to grow our economy, we’ll need significant investment in our network over the next 10-20 years, including two new reservoirs in Lincolnshire and the Fens. But over the next five years we have to complete a 340km interconnector pipeline to bring water from the north of our region, to where it is badly needed to service this growth in the south, around Cambridge and north Essex. The Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA) has been in existence for a few years now, bringing together our AWS team with colleagues from Costain Group PLC, Farrans Construction, Mott MacDonald Bentley | MMB and Jacobs into an integrated team to deliver the design, planning and implementation of this critical piece of water infrastructure for our region. I’ll simply let this short video give you a sense of the progress we’ve made and the scale of the task! #waterinfrastructure #coolprojects #alliancing https://lnkd.in/eNKvt8ts

  • With Storm Bert and Connall adding extra water to the sewer network, it's a reminder of the importance of keeping pipes clear to minimise the risk of flooding across our region. While the flushing of wet wipes and sanitary products are still the biggest causes of preventable blockages, our sewer maintenance teams regularly come across frightening discoveries in the sewer network.  From scooters, to bricks and even a crocodile! Although some of the things we find down the sewer can be comical, this is the reality of what our teams face every day, and it’s putting our beloved environment and homes at unnecessary risk. While we’re significantly investing in improving the resilience of our network, preventing blockages at the source, can make all the difference in keeping our sewers flowing freely. As the wet weather continues, we can all make one simple change by only flushing the three P's - Pee, Poo and Paper. For all other rubbish like nappies, wipes, sanitary products - just bin it. • We've officially passed the halfway mark for pipelaying on our strategic pipeline project that's building hundreds of kilometres of underground, large-diameter, interconnecting pipelines that stretch from North Lincolnshire to Essex. Without this critical new pipeline - which is also one of biggest water capital delivery and environmental protection programmes in Europe - there simply wouldn't be enough water left in our region to supply future generations.   With 170 kilometres of pipeline firmly in the ground, it's a reminder that the water-stressed East of England requires careful use of the world's most precious resource to meet long-term water demand, and without coming at a cost to our environment. This is an obligation that the project is proudly fulfilling.   As part of our commitment to transparency around our region's requirements for water, the strategic pipeline team welcomed the BBC News to a section of the project in Suffolk to walk the pipe, enter a 20 million litre-capacity storage reservoir before it gets filled with water, and learn what the project will mean for the people in our region.   Providing our next business plan is approved by Ofwat, we have plans to take the pipelines even further into Suffolk and Norfolk to ensure the East of England remains resilient to drought for generations to come.   Read the article here: https://lnkd.in/eceWXJFd   #MajorInfrastructure #WaterScarcity #WaterResources

  • The Government has made its ambitions clear for growth in the UK. At the heart of that agenda is ensuring we have the right water infrastructure in place to support the new homes and business headed for the East of England. But securing a future water supply in one of the most water scarce parts of the UK isn't a quick or easy. It can take decades to plan large megaprojects, like reservoirs - and that’s the job for companies like us at Anglian Water. We recently caught up with our Director of Strategic Asset Management, Sian Thomas to discuss the plans for our two new reservoirs in Lincolnshire and the Fens. Sian discusses the next stages of these two projects and what their completion will mean for future generations. #WaterResources #Growth #WaterSecurity

November is Men’s Health Month, and with only 1 in 4 men feeling like they can open up to their family and friends when they're struggling, it's a time to talk about men’s health challenges, spread awareness, and support healthier lives for men. From dads to video gamers, to competitive weightlifters, to marathon runners …regardless of our job roles and passions outside work, we all come together for one purpose. This #InternationalMensDay, we wanted to say an extra thank you, and look after the people who work around the clock to look after your water💧 From our private healthcare scheme, 24/7 virtual GP service, to our Employee Assistance Programme and more. It's important to us that we encourage everyone to reach out for support, whenever they need it – for both mental and physical health, and for when they just need an ear to talk too.
