Welcome to one of Britain's most iconic castles
About us
Alnwick Castle is the second largest inhabited castle in England, dubbed the "Windsor of the North," which has been home to the Duke of Northumberland's family, the Percys, for over 700 years. The Castle's rich history is brimming with drama, intrigue, and extraordinary people; from a gunpowder plotter and visionary collectors, to decadent hosts and medieval England's most celebrated knight, Harry Hotspur. Combining magnificent medieval architecture with spectacular Italianate State Rooms, Alnwick Castle is one of the UK's most significant heritage destinations. In recent years it has also taken starring roles in a number of film and television productions, featuring as Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Harry Potter films and as a location for ITV's Downton Abbey.

Join us on Friday 11th October for a special evening event as Nicola Tallis celebrates her latest book, ‘Young Elizabeth’ with us at Alnwick Castle! Queenship was by no means a certain path for Henry VIII’s younger daughter - by the time she claimed the throne, she had already endured more tumult than many monarchs experienced in a lifetime. This colourful and detailed biography charts Elizabeth’s turbulent upbringing, exploring the dangers and tragedies that plagued her early life, drawing on primary sources written by Elizabeth herself to shed new light on this iconic queen. Following the talk, Nicola will be answering audience questions and signing copies of ‘Young Elizabeth’.

We're very excited to be hosting a special evening event on Wednesday 18th September with author, historian and broadcaster Dan Jones as part of the book tour for his newest biography, ‘Henry V’! ⚔ Henry V reigned over England for only nine years and four months, but he looms over the landscape of the late Middle Ages. Through his conquests in northern France, he sowed the seeds for the Wars of the Roses, leading to three generations of calamity across England. A hardened warrior, yet also creative and artistic, Dan explores the life of this intriguing and elusive monarch. Following the talk, Dan will be answering questions from the audience and signing copies of ‘Henry V’ 📚
