Concorde Capital is entering a new investment field - the transportation market. According to our calculations, the volume of legal road transportation in Ukraine is UAH 7 billion a year (if we count "gray" transportation, it is several times more). We will be entering this area through infrastructure projects, and the first one will be the reconstruction of the “Kyiv” bus station. This is the one called the "pit". And believe me, if someone doesn't know, the popular name came about for a reason. It really is a "pit", if not the “bottom”. We estimate that the station's passenger traffic is about 10 thousand people a day, which is 400 bus trips plus or minus. The reconstruction will require significant capital investments and will be implemented in two stages. The first stage - separation of bus and car traffic - has already taken place. The second stage is the in-depth renovation of the building and surrounding territory in accordance with European standards. Passengers will get high quality service. There will be a waiting area, a food court, a lounge, a playroom for children, a first-aid post, and commercial premises. Investment and Reconstruction: how can Ukraine attract foreign capital for recovery and future development? Yesterday, we delved into the Ukraine Recovery Conference at the event hosted by Kyiv International Economic Forum and Ukrainian Institute for the Future. In the lead-up to #URC2024, they joined forces with the British firm WH5 Consulting, with backing from Eurasia Group, to produce a comprehensive study that sheds light on Ukraine's investment opportunities. The study tapped into the insights of 1,407 business leaders from the US, UK, EU, Japan, and other economically powerful nations. Collectively, these companies boast an annual turnover exceeding $5 trillion and have up to $800 billion ready for potential investment in Ukraine. So, are these businesses keen to invest in our economy? Are they looking to partner with the Ukrainian private sector, and what hurdles might they face? Here are some of the key takeaways: ▪️ A significant 83% of respondents reckon that doing business with Ukraine is crucial for bolstering our economy—not as charity, but through joint large-scale projects or market entry. ▪️ The sectors that most attract investment are industry, transport, technology, strategic mineral extraction, and agriculture. ▪️ A major sticking point for foreign investors remains corruption and bribery. A substantial 39% of respondents see these issues as serious obstacles to doing business. Other barriers include protecting business rights, including property rights guarantees, ineffective regulatory policies, and the lack of efficient communication between the government and businesses. This study does a sterling job of highlighting the key issues and gives us a clear understanding of what needs to be tackled to bring investments into Ukraine. The views of potential investors are invaluable for shaping government policies and transforming the investment climate. I must emphasise: a country cannot thrive without a strong economy. We cannot afford to lose our resilience and live on credit, even considering the ongoing war. Thus, recovery and further economic development are the only constructive paths forward. Next week we wills start the offering of EUR 3 M bond issue to bridge the financing for an A class office centre in Vilnius before the bank financing kicks in by the end of this year. It will be a good project to test our capacity, as the amount is 3x larger than our first project, Uzupio personos. Nevertheless, the terms are very different, as the money is only required for 6 months (if not less), the building is 60% pre-leased and the project is going through due diligence phases by one of the top banking players in Europe 😊 Being a balanced introvert / extrovert person (it all depends on the situation 😉), I am still undecided about the publicity aspect of the platform’s fund raising, as everyone will be able to see the ‘green line' and how it hopefully approaches the target amount. Yet even today it is not easy to estimate how quickly and whether in full we will collect the whole amount. May the odds be in our favour 🤞

Azerbaijan acts as a key node in the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR, or Middle Corridor), James Sharp, the former UK's Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, The regional economic development that the Middle Corridor upgrades will boost is not simply about easier exports of raw materials, but—even more importantly—how to use their position in the Middle Corridor to create diversified, value-added economies. This is where hubs have a particular advantage. One of the lessons from the ancient Silk Road is that the hubs along the route developed into important trading centers. To my mind, the most obvious hub in the Middle Corridor is Alat, the port of Baku. Alat is the key node in the Middle Corridor; all of the proposed routes go through it, and it is the only place in this unique situation. Furthermore, it is situated on a potential North-South Corridor between Russia and Iran. For sure, that raises issues about sanctions at the moment, but over the long term, progress could mean that businesses located in Alat—and, by extension, Azerbaijan—have fantastic access to a wide range of markets. Once again, Azerbaijan would be recreating its role as a crossroads," he said. As the former ambassador noted, Kazakhstan is the other country through which most routes pass, and here one could imagine hubs developing close to Almaty, and also in Shymkent, where the route from Uzbekistan - and perhaps further to the south - joins the Middle Corridor. Growing significance of the Middle Corridor Sharp pointed out that since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, there has been a significant change in attitudes in Europe towards transporting goods via Russia. "This has sparked renewed interest in the Middle Corridor, or, more specifically, the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. Interestingly, it’s not only the war in Ukraine that has increased interest in the Middle Corridor. The events in the Red Sea, where the Houthis have been launching missiles and drones against commercial shipping, have also made governments and companies aware of the need to diversify transport routes. I think there are several reasons why investing in the Middle Corridor makes sense as an additional way of linking Asia and Europe, and it's clear that the region's governments, supported by the EU and international financial institutions, have definite plans to boost its potential. I very much support this. Of course, the Middle Corridor will not replace the other routes, but it will provide an alternative route. Of course, there is still a significant amount of work to be done. As well as the obvious bottleneck caused by the need to switch between rail and maritime transport when crossing the Caspian Sea, a significant amount of work needs to be done due to the fact that the route crosses so many countries," he said. The second quarter of 2024 witnessed the anticipated revival in the investment market, with the total investment volume in Poland exceeding EUR 1.3 billion, marking the highest quarterly value in over a year.  Investor activity and the number of transactions approaching completion signal a positive trend. The “ Pivdenny West Bridge” Program Now in the Reliable Hands of Reģionālā investīciju banka Since the second half of 2022, the “Pivdenny West Bridge” project has been bringing together the teams of Pivdenny Bank and Reģionālā investīciju banka (RIB) to support the expansion of Ukrainian businesses within the EU. Through the “ Pivdenny West Bridge” program, Ukrainian businesses gain access to essential services in European bank RIB, including account setup, swift and efficient operational support, execution of complex transactions for acquiring business assets, and, most importantly, access to financing—services that can be challenging for Ukrainian entrepreneurs to obtain from EU banks. In two years, two banks joint efforts have attracted a range of premier business groups to the program, including Farmak, Biosphere Corporation, YURiA-PHARM LLC, Kormotech Global, UPG, RETAL, umgi, DTEK, Nova Post Europe, Meest International, Enamine Ltd., and others — nearly 50 business groups in total. Through “Pivdenny West Bridge,” we’ve successfully delivered several unique loan agreements, such as: • Farmak Project: Financing for the launch of a new pharmaceutical plant in Spain, totaling €12 million. • Biosphere Corporation Project: Financing the acquisition of a household goods production business in Romania and the Alufix brand, totaling €2.6 million. • Leasing Agreement for new tank wagons in Poland: Strengthening fuel logistics through Poland to Ukraine, totaling €7 million. In total, Ukrainian businesses have secured financial support with a common limit exceeding €40 million. Over the past two years, Pivdenny Bank’s Investment Business Department has served as the driving force and moderator of the “Pivdenny West Bridge” program. The project has proven its value and effectiveness, meeting its target objectives. Now, it is time to hand over program’s ongoing support and further development to the Reģionālā investīciju banka team, whose expertise and experience will ensure the program’s continued success and growth. The collaboration between our banks’ joint teams will continue. Meanwhile, the Investment Business Department has new, ambitious strategic goals ahead, focusing primarily on building partnerships with International Financial Institutions (European Investment Bank (EIB), European Investment Fund (EIF), EBRD, IFC - International Finance Corporation, U.S. International Development Finance Corporation, USAID) The role of IFIs in supporting Ukraine and its institutions is substantial and will only grow. Executive Summary A year after the introduction of Action Plan 2.0, the International Working Group on Russian Sanctions presents its Action Plan 3.0, aimed at significantly intensifying the economic pressure on Russia to hasten the end of its aggression in Ukraine. The plan proposes a comprehensive set of sanctions designed to undermine Russia's economic and military capabilities. Key measures proposed include: 1. Asset Confiscation. Sovereign assets of the Russian Central Bank which are now frozen in the West shall be seized to provide Ukraine with the necessary military and economic support and fund its post-war reconstruction. 2. Enhanced Enforcement and Further Reduction of Oil Price Cap. Compliance with the $60 per barrel price cap on Russian oil should be strengthened by preventing “attestations fraud” and countering the shadow tanker fleet that Russia has assembled to bypass sanctions. Once the price cap is credibly enforced, it should be ratcheted down by $10/bbl to $50/bbl.      3. Comprehensive Sanctions on Key Exports. Sanctions must be expanded to cover LNG, pipeline gas, fertilizers, and metals. The full embargo on uranium, aluminium, and steel products should be introduced. The remaining imports from Russia are to be subject to across-the-board tariffs. 4. Restrictions on Access to Critical Technologies. The Coordinating Committee for Multilateral Export Controls (CoCom) should be re-established to ensure compliance with bans on the export to Russia of critical technologies, equipment, and components used in the defense sector and oil and gas industry. It is also important to bolster corporate responsibility and target intermediaries in third countries “friendly” to Russia. 5. Financial Sector Sanctions. Further restrictions should be imposed on international financial transactions, limiting liquidity and credit availability for the Russian financial sector and blocking any transactions with all Russian banks and key financial institutions. Compliance encompasses many more aspects, and financial monitoring is just one of them. 🔗 The implementation of a system of measures and their ongoing execution should be entrusted to a person with the appropriate qualifications whose skills meet legal requirements. 🔗 The internal compliance of a company is not just about checking counterparties; it is a comprehensive set of actions aimed at preventing and overcoming risks associated with legal non-compliance. It also includes risk management, audits, handling 'delicate situations,' crisis management, assisting in adapting the business to new regulations, and developing rules. 🔗 Financial monitoring is a procedure established by the state, intended to regulate the market and prevent the legalization of funds obtained unlawfully. Only certain entities defined by law are obligated to carry out this procedure. 🔗 Cooperation with a counterparty, including the first transaction, should only begin after the completion of financial monitoring. 🔗 The verification of an entity planned for collaboration should adopt a comprehensive approach.
