The first agreements under the U.S.-Taiwan Initiative on 21st-Century Trade, signed in Washington last June, officially took effect on December 10. These initial agreements establish a robust legal framework for economic and trade relations, focusing on five key areas: customs administration and trade facilitation, regulatory practices, domestic service industry rules, anti-corruption measures, and small- and medium-sized enterprise support. The initiative is seen as a significant step toward a potential Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Using a "building blocks" approach, both parties plan to negotiate agreements on mutually prioritized topics, gradually advancing toward a comprehensive FTA. With the first measures now in force, both sides will collaborate through institutional mechanisms to discuss implementation, address bilateral concerns, and share expertise, further strengthening economic ties. #Taiwan's unemployment rate dropped to 3.4% in October, down 0.03 percentage points from September, marking the lowest rate for the month in 24 years. Further declines are expected in November. The decrease follows a seasonal rise in unemployment between June and August as new graduates entered the workforce. By September, many had secured jobs, improving the outlook. Historical trends and the holiday shopping season are likely to further boost employment. Youth unemployment, however, remains a challenge. The jobless rate for those aged 15-24 fell to 11.53% in October, down from 11.88% in September, but remains 0.32 percentage points higher than a year ago. Still, the average youth #unemployment rate from January to October stands at 11.36%, the lowest since 2008.
