Senate Democrats clear way for Iran nuclear deal
Senate Democrats successfully blocked a resolution of disapproval of the Iran nuclear deal Thursday, handing a major victory to President Obama. Though Congress has until Sept. 17 to pass a vote of disapproval on the deal — Republicans in the Senate said they would force Democrats to vote on Iran again next week — Obama has lined up enough support in the Senate to sustain a veto should the resolution of disapproval make it to his desk.
The six-nation nuclear accord with Iran eases sanctions on the country in exchange for curbing its nuclear program.
