At the recent HR Summit co-chaired and co-organised by Sequoia Group and MRTJC, my fellow panellists and I reflected on the challenges faced by HR Leaders and Chief Executives in the Gen AI era, and we attempted to surface the most critical priorities for success. One of the major shifts to contend with is the need to “hit refresh” for our mental models and assumptions around the definitions of Work, Workers and Workplace. The world is at a turning point where there is shift from a worker-centric economy to a talent-centric one, whereby the conventional social contract between employers and employees is coming into question. With the rise of the gig economy and a surge of start ups enabled by new technology, the market of talent, innovation and ideas is liberated and more than before, talent will flow to where their expertise are most highly valued. Post-pandemic, we are also waking up to a world where people are appraising work differently - it is not just a means for making a living but a means for building a life. Given the substantial amount of time we devote to work, people are looking for a deeper meaning, one that is aligned with their life purpose and a workplace that enables them to learn, evolve and grow. All these imply that we need to foster a learning culture, one that embodies a growth mindset, adaptive, agile and highly engaging. Leaders need to create a safe space for ideas to emerge, harness human creativity and enterprise, and keep corporate purpose front and center. Through our MoU and partnership with MRTJC, Sequoia is looking forward to sharing and contextualising our people and leadership and organisation development expertise in the coming years, so as to contribute to the human capital development efforts that the nation has set out to achieve through the Pentagonal Strategy to bring Cambodia into a middle income country by 2030 and high income country by 2050. We hope to also bring in more L&OD expertise from the region to support MRTJC in their efforts. We sincerely hope that the HR Summit Cambodia 2024 has served as a platform to catalyse the conversations amongst HR champions on what it takes to respond to these challenges and reframe them into opportunities. Singapore remains open for foreign talents and business, and will continue to get the busienss and Government to work together to train local talents. Singapore Green Plan 2030 publishes concrete targets to advance Singapore’s transition. The intermediary 2025-2026 targets provide a strong reference of how countries and corporates may build milestones, roadmaps and action plans for ‘responsible production and consumption’ change. ✨2025 targets: Energy Reset Green Energy: 1.5 gigawatt-peak (GWp) solar energy deployment to support annual electricity needs of 260,000 households. 200 megawatt-hour of Energy Storage Systems to enhance grid resilience and support clean energy transitions Greener Infrastructure and Buildings: Singapore’s first integrated waste and used water treatment facility to be 100% energy self-sufficient (Tuas Nexus). Reduce energy consumption of desalination process from 3.5kWh/m3 to 2kWh/m3. Cleaner-energy Vehicles: New registrations of diesel cars and taxis to cease and HDB towns to be Electric Vehicle (EV) ready with chargers at all HDB carparks.
