Kamani Tapir!'s "The Pilgrim, Their God and The King Of My Decrepit Mountain" is a truly impressive album. Every song on it is excellent, and they all fit together into a good album, too. My favorite songs (I'm going to cheat this time) have to be the final two songs, "My God" and "Mountain Song" ("Untitled" is also great, so maybe I should just say Act 3...). "My God"s lyrics resonate with me more than I would have guessed, and "Mountain Song" is just beautiful. It's an absolutely wonderful album. Favorite track: Mountain Song.

Tony Cartlidge I mean, jesus, just pick a track, any track as your favourite and it will probably be true. Just an amazing album from start to finish. Entirely stumbled across this album and I think it is my album of the year so far. I can't imagine how good something will have to be to beat it! Favorite track: Gymnopédie.

about

South-London-based 6-piece Tapir! have announced details of the release of their album, 'The Pilgrim, Their God and the King of My Decrepit Mountain', which is out on Friday 26th January 2024 on Heavenly Recordings.

The Pilgrim, Their God and the King of My Decrepit Mountain follows a three-act structure – released by Heavenly Recordings as three four-track EPs – telling the story of a solitary traveller, an ambiguous red creature known as The Pilgrim, on a journey across a mythical landscape of eerie forests, stormy seas and unholy mountains populated by beasts, injured birds and idealised eidolons. A fantastical offbeat fable carried along by Gray’s crisp, heartfelt vocals and the band’s instinctive, idiosyncratic melodies, the project at times feels like the musical equivalent of the paintings of Henry Darger, Henri Rousseau or Philip Guston.
