Welcome to the Brother Scanner configuration site. Below you will see a list of configuration changes made to specific models of Brother scanners to work with Kurzweil 3000. These configuration changes should not be made unless you expierence issues with your scanner, using the default settings.

MFC-7360N

Issue Summary:

You may encounter issues scanning with a Brother MFC-7360N (AIO Laser Printer) scanner in Kurzweil 3000 (K3000). Follow the Troubleshooting Steps below to fix your scanning issues.

Depending on the version of Windows and K3000 you're using, you may not encounter any scanning problems at all or the Troubleshooting Steps below may not resolve your scanning issues.

Troubleshooting Steps:

1. Before attempting troubleshooting, it's good practice to disable UAC on your computer. Follow these instructions to disable UAC: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/turn-user-account-control-on-off#1TC=windows-7

2. Make sure you're using the latest version of K3000. This article covers updating K3000: http://support.cambiumtech.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=1210

3. Make sure to you install the latest drivers for your scanner. Drivers for your scanner can usually be found on the manufacturer's website. You may have to uninstall your older scanner software and drivers before installing an updated software/driver package for your scanner.

4. Close out of K3000.

5. On your computer, run the C:\Program Files (x86)\Kurzweil Educational Systems\Diags\ScanConf.exe file. This is a Scanner Configuration utility which can modify how K3000 interfaces with your scanner drivers.

6. In the Scanner Configuration window, use the following settings:

Select the Brother MFC TWAIN driver

Hold Scanner: Never

Native Scan: On

Click the Done button to apply the settings

7. Run K3000. Within the K3000 menu, go to Scan > Scanner Setup > Select Scanner...

Select the Brother MFC TWAIN driver and click OK to initialize it.

8. Attempt to scan a document in K3000 as normal.

MFC-J475DW

Issue Summary:

You may encounter issues scanning with a Brother MFC-J475DW scanner in Kurzweil 3000 (K3000). Follow the Troubleshooting Steps below to fix your scanning issues.

Depending on the version of Windows and K3000 you're using, you may not encounter any scanning problems at all or the Troubleshooting Steps below may not resolve your scanning issues.

Troubleshooting Steps:

Note that the solution below will not work with the ADF portion of the scanner. Utilize the default TWAIN driver to utility the ADF. Utilize the WIA-TWAIN (with the below settings) to scan using the flatbed.

Force ADF Ready: Off

Require ADF Ready: Off

Hold Scanner: Never

Native Scan: Off

Simulate Xfer Ready: Always On

Hold Scanner: Never

Click the Done button to apply the settings

7. Run K3000. Within the K3000 menu, go to Scan > Scanner Setup > Select Scanner...

Select the WIA-Brother MFC-J75DW (TWAIN) driver and click OK to initialize it.

8. Attempt to scan a document in K3000 as normal.

DSmobile 600

Issue Summary:

You may encounter issues scanning with a Brother DSmobile 600 scanner in Kurzweil 3000 (K3000). Follow the Troubleshooting Steps below to fix your scanning issues.

Depending on the version of Windows and K3000 you're using, you may not encounter any scanning problems at all or the Troubleshooting Steps below may not resolve your scanning issues.

Note that Scanner does NOT support duplex, per specs. Scanner is a single feed but will allow you to feed another page if you load it within 5-10 seconds of the previous page.

Select the WIA-Epson 3620 (TWAIN) driver. Note that the TWAIN only driver will not work.

Native Scan: On

Hold Scanner: Never

Click the Done button to apply the settings

7. Run K3000. Within the K3000 menu, go to Scan > Scanner Setup > Select Scanner...

Select the WIA-Epson 3620 (TWAIN) driver and click OK to initialize it.

8. Attempt to scan a document in K3000 as normal.

DCP-7065DN

4. Run K3000. Within the K3000 menu, go to Scan > Scanner Setup > Select Scanner...

Select the WIA-Brother DCP-7065DN TWAIN driver and click OK to initialize it. Make sure to select the driver that is both noted as WIA and TWAIN.

5. Attempt to scan a document in K3000 as normal.

Note it may not be possible to successfully scan using the flatbed portion of the device. Using the WIA TWAIN driver it should be possible to scan using the feeder.

MFC J450DW

You may encounter issues scanning with a Brother MFC J450DW scanner in Kurzweil 1000 (K1000). Follow the Troubleshooting Steps below to possibly fix your scanning issues.

Troubleshooting Steps:

4. Close and exit out of K1000.

5. On your computer, run the C:\Program Files (x86)\Kurzweil Educational Systems\Diags\ScanConf.exe file. This is a Scanner Configuration utility which can modify how K1000 interfaces with your scanner drivers.

6. In the Scanner Configuration window, use the following settings:

Select the TW Brother MFC J440DW (TWAIN) driver

Force ADF Enabled: Off

Require ADF Ready: Off

Hold Scanner: Never

Canceling Scan: Fast Cancel

Simulate Xfer Ready: Always On

Click the Done button to apply the settings

7. Run K10000. In your Scanner Settings, select the TWAIN driver as the Scanner Source.

 MFC-665CW

Native Scan: On

Click the Done button to apply the settings

7. Run K3000. Within the K3000 menu, go to Scan > Scanner Setup > Select Scanner...

Select the TWAIN driver and click OK to initialize it.

8. Attempt to scan a document in K3000 as normal.

6. In the Scanner Configuration window, use the following settings:

Select the TW-Bother MFC-J650DW LAN (TWAIN) driver.

Force ADF Enabled: Off

Hold Scanner: Never

Native Scan: On

Canceling Scan: Fast Cancel

Force Duplex Supported: Off

Simulate Xfer Ready: Always On

For all other settings listed, do not change them. Click the Done button to apply the settings

7. Run K10000. In your Scanner Settings, select the TWAIN driver as the Scanner Source.
