Fix sync problems with the Google Calendar app

Use this page if events you created or updated aren't showing on your computer or in the Google Calendar app.

First, try these common fixes

Follow these steps on the device you're using the Google Calendar app on.

1. Make sure you're connected to the Internet

To test if you're connected to the Internet, try doing a search.

If you're not connected, make sure that data or Wi-Fi is on, and that you're not in Airplane mode.

2. Check that you're using the Google Calendar app

To check that you're using the Google Calendar app, make sure the app's icon looks like this: Calendar.

Next, check your device's app store to make sure the Google Calendar app is up to date.

3. Check that the calendar is visible
  1. Open the Google Calendar app Calendar.
  2. In the top left, tap Menu Menu.
  3. To the left of the calendar's name, make sure the box is checked.
4. Make sure new events are being added to your Google Calendar

When you create an event, check which calendar it's being added to. If it isn't being added to the Events calendar, you may not find it in the Google Calendar app or at calendar.google.com.

  1. Open the Google Calendar app Calendar.
  2. In the bottom right, tap Add Create event.
  3. Next to the event icon Event, look for "Event."
    • If it doesn't say "Event," tap the event icon Event to switch to the correct calendar.

Next, try these troubleshooting tips

Try the steps above first. If they didn't work, read through these instructions on your computer while you try the steps on your device.

Note: The Google Calendar app syncs past events up to one year.

Make sure Calendar sync is turned on
  1. Open the Settings app on your device (not the Google settings app).
  2. Tap Accounts.
  3. Select an account.
  4. Tap Account sync.
  5. Make sure Account sync is turned on for Google Calendar.
Confirm that the correct calendar is synced
  1. Open the Google Calendar app Calendar.
  2. In the top left, tap Menu Menu.
  3. Tap Settings .
  4. Tap the name of the calendar that isn't showing up. If you don't find the calendar listed, tap Show more.
  5. At the top of the page, make sure Sync is on (blue). You'll only find the Sync setting for calendars you've created, but not your primary calendar (this is usually called "Events" unless you've changed its name).

Note: It might take some time for your events to show up after you turn on sync.

Manually sync your Calendar
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Calendar app Calendar.
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Menu and then Refresh .
Make sure Calendar storage is turned on
  1. Open the Settings app on your device, not the "Google Settings" app.
  2. Tap Apps or Apps & notifications.
  3. To get the list of all apps, tap See all apps.
  4. In the top right, tap More and then Show system and then Calendar storage.
Check your device's storage
Calendar stops syncing if your device is running out of storage.
  1. Open the Settings app on your device (not the "Google Settings" app).
  2. Find the Storage section.
  3. If you need to clear space, try uninstalling apps you don't use or deleting files or photos from your device.
Clear your Calendar app data
Important: These steps may cause you to lose some unsynced data. Any event information you can't find on Google Calendar on your computer will be lost. Only try these steps if nothing else above worked.
  1. Open the Settings app on your device (not the "Google Settings" app).
  2. Tap the Apps or Apps & notifications section. You may need to scroll down or go to a different page in settings.
  3. To get the list of all apps, tap See all apps.
  4. Select Calendar Calendar.
  5. Tap Storage and then Clear storage and then OK.
  6. If you find "Calendar Storage" in the list, clear data for that app too.
  7. Turn off your device, then turn it back on again.
