Job Description General Purpose Under the general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor performs a variety of working level, general administrative and technical duties as needed to coordinate the day-to-day operation of one or more recreation program(s) Supervision Received Works under the general supervision of the Recreation Director and Recreation Supervisor.
Essential Functions Essential Functions - (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics.

) ~Initiates and coordinates the daily follow-up and implementation activities as needed to assure timely delivery of scheduled events, service projects, classes, league play and programs ~Supervises the operation and activities of such programs as basketball, baseball, tennis, volleyball, softball, football, soccer, summer camps, etc.
~Develops program cost projections and recommends budgets; monitors program expenditures to assure compliance with established financial guidelines ~Provides immediate supervision over recreation activities and seasonal, temporary or volunteer personnel ~Oversees coaches, activity specialists, site supervisors and officiators and conducts training as needed ~May officiate or referee games or assist in coaching; maintains statistics for leagues and tournaments ~Schedules leagues, programs and events; manages the annual and seasonal calendar to assure timeliness of program starting dates and conclusions ~Assures timely delivery of public notices and announcements as needed to afford target populations opportunity for participation.
Assists in public relations by finding volunteer workers and presenting new programs to the general public; conducts program registrations; completes post-program evaluations to assure effectiveness ~Carries out publicity and advertising campaigns.
~Assist with Hurricane City sponsored holiday events.
~Utilizes various forms of media, notices, publications, flyers, and brochures to promote interest and use of recreation programs ~Controls use of equipment by signing out equipment and by scheduling reservations for use of public facilities ~Handles complaints from coaches, participants, organizations; negotiates to achieve solutions which better the recreation programs and services ~All other required duties.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications A High School Diploma or equivalent.
Two (2) years of experience working in programs and special events for Hurricane City, or a similar organization, showing adequate knowledge and skill in assigned tasks.
Special Requirements Must possess a valid Utah Driver License; obtain First Aid and CPR Certification within six (6) months of employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, and other recreation related computer software.
Considerable knowledge of developing and administering recreation and youth city government programs; working knowledge of the rules of a variety of sports.
Ability to run recreation department in Director's and supervisor"s absence.
Considerable knowledge of fitness equipment and how it works.
Ability to work under stressful situations; ability to stay calm; have excellent problem-solving skills.
Ability to prepare and administer budget, maintain records and prepare reports.
Ability to work evenings, night shifts, split shifts, weekends, and some holidays.
Ability to participate in active sports and recreation activities; ability to organize and direct fitness and/or recreation programs.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, public, news media and other departments and agencies; ability to follow written and oral instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; ability to direct the work of others.
Physical Requirements Typical Physical/Mental Demands/Working Conditions While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is frequently required to perform a variety of physical activities, sitting or standing for extended periods while assisting customers and while operating office equipment.
Walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching and light lifting.
Talking, hearing and seeing essential in the performance of daily tasks.
Common eye, hand, finger dexterity exists.
Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability and critical thinking.
Exposure to weather extremes.
The noise level is usually quiet while in the office and moderately loud when in the field.
Must be able to perform moderate lifting.
Considerable exposure to stress as a result of human behavior, including dealing with unpleasant, angry or discourteous individuals as part of the job requirements.
Condition of Employment Condition of Employment Employee may be required to work extended or irregular hours such as nights, weekends and holidays.
Hurricane City employment can require employees to occasionally work outside of their normal job duties to assist with city sponsored events and/or projects.
The employee is expected to forgo normal work duties to assist with the completion of these events and/or projects.
In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.
