POSITION: K-8 Teacher LOCATION: Page, AZ REPORTS TO: Executive Director/ Lead Teachers SALARY RANGE: Starting at $46,000, scale is based on experience and education SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT: GCOA is committed to providing an active student-centered environment through outdoor expeditionary learning, collaborative teachers, and family and community engagement that will develop inquisitive explorers, cultivate creative thinkers, and empower resilient learners.
ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW: Glen Canyon Outdoor Academy (GCOA) is an accredited Charter School serving the community of Page, Arizona and surrounding Navajo Nation Reservation communities.
Page has a population of nearly 8,000 and is the largest town within a 130 mile radius.
A benefit of being located in the center of the Grand Circle atop the majestic Colorado Plateau, Page is surrounded by stunning geology and tribal and public lands.
The development of GCOA came from citizens of Page seeking to utilize the amazing natural resources that surround our area, capitalize on the rich culture of our people, and from the desire to offer a unique and engaging learning model to our students.
POSITION SUMMARY: The GCOA teacher supports the instructional program by providing instruction on Arizona State Standards delivered through the GCOA board approved curriculum.
The GCOA teacher will also be responsible for; the supervision of students within the classroom, school approved educational settings and other assigned areas, the development of lesson plans to deliver whole group, small group and individual student instruction, collaboration with teachers and GCOA staff, student management and communication with staff, families, and the GCOA community.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: _The GCOA Teacher key responsibilities include the following areas and may be changed at any time based on the needs of GCOA: _ * Accurately demonstrate knowledge of the assigned content area and GCOA curriculum.
* Develops and delivers instruction that supports the GCOA curriculum.
* Plans for whole group, small group and individual student instruction based on the learning needs of the students.
* Establishes ongoing communication with parents and provides weekly student progress reports on behavior, social emotional and academic progress.
* Assesses student progress towards academic targets for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
* Collaborates with staff, parents, and community for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes.
* Provides instruction and mentors students for the purpose of improving academic, social emotional, health and behavior practices.
* Demonstrates effective differentiation of instruction to meet the individual needs of students.
* Directs the use of paraprofessionals and volunteers for the purpose of delivering an effective classroom program.
* Manages student behavior using the GCOA Behavior Management Plan.
* Monitors students in a variety of educational environments including classroom, cafeteria, grounds, hallways, off campus learning opportunities and field trips, for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
* Participates in meetings and professional development activities to promote individual growth and for the purpose of enhancing the GCOA educational plan.
* Prepares a variety of materials for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
* Reports incidents for the purpose of maintaining the safety of students and supporting a positive school learning environment including those that adhere to state law and board policies.
* Participates in safety related training and potentially provides first aid to students when engaged in GCOA activities.
* Other duties as they may be assigned to meet the safety and well-being of students and which may benefit the GCOA educational program.

* Commitment to continued personal and professional growth, including opportunities pursued individually and provided through GCOA.
* Positive attitude towards being a part of a school team and displays a strong sense of professionalism skills.
* Management and organizational ability, displaying common sense, and a positive attitude.
* Compliance with all GCOA policies and rules as well as the legal requirements of the State of Arizona.
* Computer skills proficient to address classroom requirements and GCOA educational program needs.
* Structured English Immersion (SEI) coursework and/or endorsement preferred.
_Preferred Qualifications:_ * A valid Arizona Teacher’s Certificate, K-8 _Required Qualifications:_ * Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
* Willingness to work toward Arizona Teacher certification.
* Arizona State Fingerprint Clearance Card _Physical Demands and Work Environment:_ The GCOA educational plan requires that teachers deliver instruction through both the classroom and outdoor related activities.
To perform these tasks teachers must be able to work in a variety of outdoor settings.
This may include hiking, camping, water activities and working with tools relevant to performing outdoor related activities.
