POSITION: Special Education Teacher
LOCATION: Page, AZ
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education, School Leader
SALARY RANGE: Starting at $48,300 (5% increase for special education)

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW: Glen Canyon Outdoor Academy (GCOA) is an accredited Charter School serving the community of Page, Arizona and surrounding Navajo Nation Reservation communities.
Page has a population of nearly 8,000 and is the largest town within a 130 mile radius.
A benefit of being located in the center of the Grand Circle atop the majestic Colorado Plateau, Page is surrounded by stunning geology and tribal and public lands.
The development of GCOA came from citizens of Page seeking to utilize the amazing natural resources that surround our area, capitalize on the rich culture of our people, and from the desire to offer a unique and engaging learning model to our students.
POSITION SUMMARY: The GCOA special education teacher supports the instructional program by providing instruction and support to students with an IEP based on their IEP goals and service requirements.
The GCOA special education teacher will also be responsible for; the supervision of students within the classroom, school approved educational settings and other assigned areas, the development of lesson plans and modification of curriculum based on a student’s IEP, collaboration with teachers and GCOA staff, student management and communication with staff, families, and the GCOA community.
The special education teacher will be responsible for state and federal regulations in regards to the student’s IEP and reporting and paperwork that align with those requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: _The GCOA Teacher key responsibilities include the following areas and may be changed at any time based on the needs of GCOA: _ * Work collaboratively with teachers and administration to develop classroom strategies and implement individualized instruction to meet the needs of each student.
* Ability to utilize the push-in model to support students * Maintain IEP and Reevaluation requirements in the time allotment designated by federal and state law.
* Established ongoing communication with parents and advocate for students in a variety of settings.
* Participate in the MTSS Process * Assesses student progress towards academic targets for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
* Collaborates with staff, parents, and community for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes.
* Provides instruction and mentors students for the purpose of improving academic, social emotional, health and behavior practices.
* Demonstrates effective differentiation of instruction to meet the individual needs of students.
* Manages student behavior using the GCOA Behavior Management Plan.
* Monitors students in a variety of educational environments including classroom, cafeteria, grounds, hallways, off campus learning opportunities and field trips, for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
* Participates in meetings and professional development activities to promote individual growth and for the purpose of enhancing the GCOA educational plan.
* Prepares a variety of materials for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
* Reports incidents for the purpose of maintaining the safety of students and supporting a positive school learning environment including those that adhere to state law and board policies.
* Participates in safety related training and potentially provides first aid to students when engaged in GCOA activities.
* Other duties as they may be assigned to meet the safety and well-being of students and which may benefit the GCOA educational program.

_Required Qualifications:_ * ADE Teacher Certificate in Special Education or ability to obtain.
* Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Special Education * Arizona State Fingerprint Clearance Card _Physical Demands and Work Environment:_ The GCOA educational plan requires that teachers deliver instruction through both the classroom and outdoor related activities.
To perform these tasks teachers must be able to work in a variety of outdoor settings.
This may include hiking, camping, water activities and working with tools relevant to performing outdoor related activities.
