Job Description:
Southern Utah University (SUU) invites applications for a full-time, tenure track, Assistant Professor of History in the department of History, Sociology, and Anthropology, to begin August 15, 2024.
We seek a historian with experience training History Teaching majors and capable of supervising student-teaching.
Geographical focus and specialization area is open.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The annual teaching assignment, which includes supervision of student-teachers, will be the equivalent of 8 undergraduate courses spread across two semesters (a 4/4 load).
Primary responsibilities will include:
Supervising student-teaching/fieldwork experience in History & Social Studies
A Teaching Methods course
General Education courses in areas such as American History, World History, or European History (depending on the successful candidate's expertise and experience).
There will also be opportunity to teach upper-division elective courses in the successful candidate's area of specialty.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Terminal degree in History or History Education; ABD candidates and candidates with a Master's Degree in History / History Education will be considered.
Prior experience teaching undergraduate courses.
Experience teaching secondary education students is preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of History & Social Studies pedagogy.
Demonstrated commitment to pedagogical methods that enable students across racial, ethnic, and socio-economic groups to reach their maximum potential.
