One funny story about when UX and UI go in the wrong direction. This is a mobile app from one huge telecommunications company in Poland. Did you know that when you go through the app and want to skip to the next page (1), you don't have any possibility to do this? Why? Because your action triggers an additional popup (2) to make a call to this company. It is not important to answer the question now: on which phones does this problem not occur. If this problem happens on most popular phones, it means it is a serious mistake. Especially if you encounter this problem with one of the biggest telecommunications companies. And would you see a better place for the quick contact button? Have a nice day!

As a child, I dreamed of unearthing ancient treasures or designing towering skyscrapers. Life, however, had other plans. I found myself drawn to the world of coding, crafting digital architectures instead of physical ones. Yet, a new dream took root: to write a tech book that would share my journey and insights. Years passed. That dream lingered, a constant whisper in the back of my mind. I didn't know what I would write about or when I would find the time, but the desire persisted. Finally, after countless lines of code and hard-earned lessons, I put pen to paper—or rather, fingers to keyboard. The book was born. What happened next stunned me. An invitation arrived from the GOTO Book Club, having a chance to be heard by a million subscribers. Suddenly, I found myself in the spotlight, discussing software architecture with the brilliant Artur Skowroński. Today, it still feels surreal, but it has become true. That childhood dreamer could never have imagined this moment. Yet here I am, proof that some dreams, no matter how long they simmer, can indeed come true. It's quite eye-opening to learn that a lot of software development projects hit a snag right at the finish line. Did you know that a whopping 80% of the work actually happens in the last 20% of the project? This crucial stage often doesn't get the attention it deserves. Many development agencies find themselves struggling here because of poor planning and budget issues, which sadly leads to projects being abandoned prematurely. What starts as a 6-9 month journey can unexpectedly stretch into years or, even worse, never get completed.

With 20 years of IT experience, articles featured in top Medium publications, open-source contributions archived in GitHub Arctic Code Vault, and many other achievements, I'm still rarely able to find work in software. This causes me to spend most of my working hours doing non-IT work such as handyman and contracting services. Thank goodness I have these skills to fall back on. What's wrong with the industry today? 🌟 J Prime Conference 2024 in Sofia was simply awesome. The attention to detail by the organizers made both the audience and speakers feel valued and appreciated. I gave a talk on "Domain-Driven Design: Separating Fact from Fiction." I was initially unsure how my talk would be received, given the heavy focus on Java and AI topics. However, the turnout was incredible, with a full tent of around 250-300 attendees! 🙌 This showed me that fundamental topics like Domain-Driven Design are still highly relevant and important in the software development field. Seeing nodding heads and hearing laughter from the audience was truly rewarding. 😊 A big shoutout to the organizers, especially Ivan Ivanov, Dmitry Aleksandrov, Mihail Stoyanov, Martin Toshev and Doychin Bondzhev. The warm reception at the airport (thanks Mihail!), the practical speaker badge with the schedule and meal tickets (thanks Dima!), and the personalized t-shirt ("Hands-on Architect in Action" - thanks Ivan!) were all thoughtful touches that made the experience exceptional. The whole team was incredibly helpful. I will add some shoutouts in the comments with some photos 😊📸. So much for the basement-dwelling programmer stereotype 😉. Conferences like the International PHP Conference are splendid opportunities to gain new perspectives - and face new challenges. 🛠️ Programming is essentially about solving problems, and events just like this conference allow us to share experiences and learn from best of the best in the industry. During sessions and workshops, I got to hear real stories about real problems - how they arise, how to solve them - and how to prevent them from reoccurring. 😉 I had the pleasure of attending talks on the latest trends in PHP, code optimization and best practices in system architecture. I learned how to avoid common mistakes and what techniques to use to make our applications even more efficient and secure. 🖥️🔐 Meeting other specialists - once again - proved that exchanging insights is the key to growth. DevOps Salaries in Hungary: A Quick Update 💼 Over the past two weeks, the DevOps job market in Hungary has remained steady. If you're at a Junior level, finding a job might be challenging. Across popular platforms like NoFluffJobs and Profession, I only came across one listing from NIX. However, if you're a Mid or Senior level professional, you’ve got plenty of options to choose from! The market is brimming with opportunities tailored to different preferences and skill sets. If your teeth hurt, would you go to a psychiatrist? No? Then read further, because I AM ABOUT TO BLOW YOUR MIND!!! Proper role separation in software development teams yields a huge productivity and quality boost. Traditional separation of roles and concerns sorts developers in two main blocks: backend and frontend. Let me say plainly: this is just wrong. There are a lot more layers, and the cutting lines should be put elsewhere. The first layer is design+HTML/CSS. Professionals working in this layer create and implement the UX, both the Interaction Design and the Visual Design. The ideal situation is achieved when the designer is free to code for fastest iteration cycles. The second layer is the API layer. This spans across the frontend and backend systems. Implementing a feature at this layer requires processing data, exposing it (securely) via the API, and then consuming this data in the frontend with the right business logic. The extremely tightly coupled integration between the two requires fast iteration, and having a (sometimes bureaucratic) separation here is the worst efficiency killer. Developers here are software engineers experts in concurrency, high-frequency/low-latency processing, and security. The second layer is ridiculously complex and should be treated with respect. The third layer is the background processing layer. This is the layer that makes sure that data is synchronized between all the data sources such as external ERPs, product catalogues, CMSes, etc. as well as our own local data stores (hopefully a normalized good DB like Postgres and a document DB like Elastic). The processing here is asynchronous and in the background, so there is not a lot of pressure on high frequency/low latency even though of course incremental concurrent processing of large data syncs such as to and from an ERP must be done intelligently or you might end up with latencies of 24h (the 90's called and want their ridiculous delays back). Data people (architects/engineers/scientists) are the ideal professionals to work on this layer. Finally, DevOps. Whenever DevOps is done by a backend engineer who "likes DevOps", a DevOps fairy falls from the sky. DevOps is a specialization and should be done by experts, especially if using the mega overkill of Kubernetes: old school Linux SysAdmins are Kings and Queens here, they know how to turn a 200k a year Kubernetes into a faster, simpler, safer, 30k a year Docker cluster.
