Singapore Enterprise Application Priorities - Cloud Storage leads the way. Our comprehensive research, conducted by capioIT, delved into the investment priorities of 512 technology and business executives based in Singapore. While we covered 16 key software areas, for the analysis, we focused on five key areas: Cloud Storage and Backup, Collaboration, CRM, Data Analytics, and ERP. These areas, known for their significant business outcomes, are Singaporean organisations' primary drivers of technology spending. The results were as interesting as we had expected. Overall, Cloud Storage and Backup was the number one priority. Collaboration, data analytics, CRM, and ERP followed this. When we broke the results down into company size, there started to be some exciting results. Collaboration was the number one tool requirement for large organisations, i.e. with over 5,000 employees, representing approximately 15% of the survey. This, of course, makes sense for large organisations. Cloud storage and backup were in the second position. Cloud storage and backup were number one for the smallest organisations, i.e., those with 100-250 employees, followed by data analytics and collaboration. CRM was the number one priority for 23% of respondents in the 251-500 employee range, and for 15% in the 501-1,000 employee range, the number one priority was Data Analytics. What are the key messages from the data? Firstly, even in a market the size of Singapore, you must take a variety of approaches to the market. Organisations of different sizes and industries have different requirements. This means that software providers, SaaS or otherwise, must have a localised approach with specific partners and go-to-market models. What works for the most prominent organisations will not work for the smallest. It also requires a cost-effective approach to the market, as coverage is difficult. If markets like ERP are not a Singapore customer priority, then investments need to be very strategic to maximise the opportunity. Only 15% of organizations in Asia Pacific are fully prepared to deploy and leverage AI-powered technologies. These were the findings from Cisco’s 2024 AI Readiness Index. The figure represents a decline in AI readiness in the region, signifying the challenges companies are facing in adopting, deploying and fully leveraging AI. The Index is based on a double-blind survey of 3,660 senior business leaders from organizations with 500 or more employees across 14 markets in APJC. These leaders are responsible for AI integration and deployment within their organizations. Interestingly, the report revealed that there continues to be mounting urgency from top leadership to implement AI technologies with 49% of companies stating that the CEO and the leadership team are driving the pressure. 30% of organizations also plan to allocate more than 40% of their IT budget to AI investments in the next four to five years.

Data-related challenges are holding back AI adoption in Singapore and more than two-thirds (69%) of IT leaders in the country believe that investments in generative AI will trend up in the next two years, according to a new report from Confluent. The report was based on a survey done by Freeform Dynamics and Radma Research with responses from 4,110 IT leaders familiar with data streaming from companies with 500 or more employees. These respondents are from 12 different countries including Singapore, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Spain, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States. There were 161 respondents in Singapore.

The first quarter of 2024 has already seen a complex interplay of factors with burgeoning next-gen technologies such as GenAI entering the mass market, and the future use cases of such technologies in uncertain industries such as cybersecurity. Therefore, planning the IT budgets this year is going to depend on leaders’ will to take a huge bet on all emerging technologies and their future use cases and ROI for businesses, both in Southeast Asia and globally.

As global economies and societies continue to leverage AI to push new frontiers, it is paramount to build a future-ready workforce that is skilled and qualified in the latest cutting-edge technologies. After all, digital transformation and #innovation is driven by human talent. #Oracle continues to make significant investments around the world to empower youth as well as professionals with vital knowledge and skills needed for today’s AI age. Our latest technology upskilling initiative in the Far East announced by our CEO Safra Catz reflects Oracle’s steadfast commitment towards education. In collaboration with the Singapore government, Oracle will deliver free training to 10,000 students and professionals in #ArtificialIntelligence, #Cloud, Cybersecurity and Data Science by 2027. In December 2023, we announced the ambitious ‘Mostaqbali’ program that will train 50,000 Saudi nationals in AI and the latest emerging tech. This was followed by a path-breaking training initiative early this year in the UAE called ‘sAIdaty’. Aligned to the UAE’s vision to be the world’s most prepared country for AI, ‘sAIdaty’ will equip 500 women professionals and entrepreneurs with vital AI skills. Such visionary capacity building initiatives will go a long way in enabling the regions where we operate to become global epicenters for AI and digital excellence.

The discussions around AI's impact brought back memories of my early days working with DEC PDP11s, Microvaxes, and more so the first personal computers. Back then, the fear of job displacement was likewise dominating the discussions, yet we saw an explosion of new opportunities emerge.
