This was reported by Daniel Wu, one of the founders of Hero Games, the largest shareholder of the game's developers. According to him, the game's development cost $70 million and took 6 years. ◾️Street Fighter 6 sales reached 4 million copies across all platforms. The total sales of the series as of the end of the first half of 2024 stand at 55 million. ◾️Sales of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 are approaching 3 million copies, earning more than all other Warhammer universe games combined in 2023. ◾️Harrison Froschke, Senior Product Manager at Blizzard Entertainment, revealed on his LinkedIn the revenue of Diablo IV. The game has surpassed $1 billion in earnings, with $150 million coming from microtransactions. Blizzard had officially reported that the game earned $666 million in its first 5 days of sales. ◾️More than 1 million people have played Citizen Sleeper. The RPD (revenue per download) in South Korea is $53, the highest among all countries. Additionally, The Last War: Survival accounts for 30% of the revenue from strategy games in South Korea. ◾️In its first year, Monster Hunter Now has earned over $225 million, according to data from AppMagic. ◾️Trivia Crack by Etermax has been downloaded more than 800 million times. 💭 Insights from the reports of the last week (02.09.24 - 06.09.24) 1️⃣ South Korean Mobile market is changing while RPG revenue is declining, according to Sensor Tower The RPG genre, a historical foundation of the Korean mobile gaming market, has been declining since 2022. And in May 2024, its share in revenue dropped below 50% for the first time in recordings. Changes are happening not only on the genre level but on a sub-genre too. MMORPGs are losing to other subgenres (Idle-RPGs mostly) - they went from 78.8% in whole RPG revenue to 56.2% in 2024. People's behaviors are changing, and time-demanding hardcore games are losing the competition to more relaxed experiences. 2️⃣ Web shops are there, but people still have many problems with them, according to Sanlo While 26 mobile games use web shops in the top 100 by revenue, it can't be named as the best user experience. People are facing many troubles - trust issues, payment methods problems, bad UI/UX. Only a quarter of people prefer buying something in web shops. As I understand it, not because it's convenient, but because of the additional bonuses they're getting. Tricky stuff: to earn more, you need to give away more for the same price. And then comes the balancing issues. 3️⃣ German gaming market declined for the first time in years in H1'24, according to game - German Games Industry Association Both hardware (-18% YoY) and software (-6% YoY) declined in H1'24. This led to the overall market decline in the first half at 6%. Gaming subscriptions are the only growing segment (+25% YoY), but the size of it is too small to change the overall industry direction. "Atlus is one of our most successful acquisition deals to date," says Sega Sammy as Metaphor: ReFantazio posts strong sales. Sega Sammy Holdings highlighted the success of Metaphor: ReFantazio and Sonic X Shadow Generations during a Q2 FY2025 earnings Q&A. Atlus, developer of Metaphor: ReFantazio and the Persona series, was praised as one of Sega’s “most successful M&A deals to date.” Acquired in 2013 for about ~$140m, Atlus has benefited from Sega’s global publishing reach, enabling broader multi-platform launches. “By joining forces with Sega, they have gained the capability to expand their targets,” said Sega Sammy, crediting the partnership and Metaphor’s high quality for its strong debut. Sega picking up Atlus has been pretty good for me. Just getting their games on more platforms has been a huge boon. With so many RPGs becoming less RPG and more action, Atlus is one of the only studios consistently putting out great classic-styled JRPGs with good production values. Atlus was also a great acquisition for Sega from a consumer perspective because it meant Sega could work with Atlus to expand to the ever-growing PC market. Sega made some really great decisions, particulary with Metaphor, and I'm glad to see those decisions paying off. - Going multiplatform from the start - Putting out a great demo that let you experience almost an entire in game cycle without time constraints All of that made possible because they trusted that the game was really strong. I hope this leads to more demos like this. Certainly up there for game of the year, and with Infinite Wealth, glad to see Sega supporting their top studios to do their thing.

The mobile gaming landscape welcomes a new player: Juicy Button Games! Based in Limassol, Cyprus, this studio has already secured a promising $3 million in funding led by The Games Fund (TGF). Juicy Button boasts a powerhouse founding team. Alexander Kravchuk (creator of mobile strategy hit Total Battle), Anton Sinelnikov (design director of Pixel Gun 3D), and Aleksandr Zaytsev (co-founder of Mighty Party developer Panoramik) bring a combined track record of success. Their previous titles have reportedly garnered a staggering $180 million to $220 million in revenue and a massive player base with 43 million to 190 million downloads across their lifetimes. The studio isn't wasting any time setting its sights on a new challenge. Their debut project will be a 4X strategy game designed specifically for mobile platforms. This genre is currently dominated by Chinese developers, but Juicy Button aims to break the mold and become a "worthy European challenger." This sentiment aligns with TGF's vision. Ilya Karpinskiy, co-founder of the VC firm, sees immense potential in Europe's game development scene. China's gaming regulator, the NPPA, approved publishing licenses for 15 foreign video games on June 5th, according to SCMP. This brings the total number of approved foreign titles in 2024 to 61, compared to 98 in all of 2023. The list, available on the NPPA website, leans towards mobile titles but also includes console and PC games. Here are some highlights: 🕹 Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! 🕹 Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury 🕹 Ultraman Legend of Heroes 🕹 Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage 🕹 Valorant: Operation Primal 🕹 Black Desert Online 🕹 Samurai Shodown mobile 🕹 Railbound 🕹 For The King 🕹 Daemon X Machina 🕹 Dungeon Hunter 6 The most anticipated title is likely Valorant: Operation Primal, the upcoming mobile version of Riot Games' popular shooter. The NPPA approved the base game in December 2022 and greenlit the mobile version on June 5th. 📊 Games & Numbers (24.07.24 - 06.08.24) 🎮 PC/console games ▪️The cumulative sales of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have reached 25 million copies. The game was released in November 2022 and has become the third game in the Pokemon series to achieve this milestone. ▪️EA has released a new hit - EA Sports College Football 25. Over 5 million people bought the game at launch, with another 500,000 joining through the EA Play Trial. Of these 5 million, 2 million purchased the $100 version to get early access to the project. ▪️Sales of Armored Core VI have reached 3 million copies. The game achieved this mark in less than a year. ▪️Manor Lords earned $60 million in 3 months of early access. The publisher is very pleased with the result. ▪️The Fallout series has influenced how much time users spend playing the series' games. The number of hours in Game Pass for the Fallout line increased 5 times in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the first, according to Satya Nadella. 📱Mobile games ▪️Revenue from MONOPOLY GO! has surpassed the $3 billion mark, as reported by Hasbro in its report. The game achieved this in 473 days, faster than any other in the history of the mobile market. ▪️Games in the Talking Tom series have been downloaded over 23 billion times. The projects’ MAU is at 470 million. The company has more than 20 projects in its portfolio, with 70% of the audience accounted for by the Tamagotchi-like games - My Talking Tom and My Talking Angela. ▪️Hero Wars: Alliance has earned more than $1.5 billion since its launch in 2017. During this time, the game has been downloaded over 150 million times. In the fall of 2023, GDEV reported revenue of $1.2 billion. ▪️According to Sensor Tower, Whiteout Survival has reached $1 billion in revenue. Among games released in 2023, it trails only MONOPOLY GO! and Honkai: Star Rail in revenue growth. 35% of the revenue comes from the US, followed by South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. Interestingly, Saudi Arabia is second in downloads. ▪️GachaRevenue reports that Zenless Zone Zero earned $99.8 million on mobile devices in its first month. The methodology is understandable, but I cannot vouch for its accuracy. ▪️Sensor Tower reports that Solo Leveling: Arise earned over $100 million in the three months after its release. South Korea accounts for 33% of the revenue, while the US accounts for 19%. ▪️Game of Thrones: Legends by Zynga earned its first million dollars in revenue. The game took 11 days to achieve this, and its current daily revenue is $100,000. Finally in mid-October, a 2024 game surprise out of nowhere! I have a friend and mentor at Tencent whose knowledge of games and, really, everything is unmatched and whose opinion I deeply respect. We share a passion for old-school point-and-click adventure games, so imagine my excitement when he said, "Amir, you should check out The Precinct by Fallen Tree Games" (and published by Kwalee). For old-school gamers, The Precinct hits so many buttons. It might remind you of APB and Police Quest. For mid-school vibes, think L.A. Noire and classic procedurals. And for newer players, you might sense some influences from Mafia or Grand Theft Auto 2. What is it? It's a police action procedural game set in a top-down city. You’ll alternate between pursuing criminals and handling cases in an open-world city grid. You'll be putting evidence in lockers, mirandizing witnesses, and cruising the streets - sometimes chasing criminals, other times tackling various objectives. It’s a blend of action and detailed procedural gameplay. This demo is part of the Steam Next Fest, and it suggests a Q4 2024 release - a thrilling prospect. While I’ll keep an eye on its long-term engagement, I can genuinely say The Precinct activated so many of my gaming sensors. It feels accessible, fun, and perfect for those moments when you just want to unwind. I'd love to hear your thoughts. More bad news today with GAMURS Group (the owners of major publications including Dot Esports, Destructoid Video Game News, and Twinfinite LLC) has seemingly cut a number of jobs without warning, with an unknown number of staff affected.
