Hiring Sentiment in Singapore Remains Soft, But Most Sectors Still Looking to Boost Headcount Despite a generally soft hiring sentiment, 44% of employers plan to hire for the July-September period, according to the latest survey. The finance and real estate sectors are notably cautious, with the net employment outlook dropping 30 percentage points to 15%. However, the transport, logistics, and automotive sector shows resilience with a robust 47% net outlook. Other highlights: - Communication services: -33% outlook, the only negative sector. - Overall net employment outlook: 20%. - Positive outlook in healthcare, life sciences, industrials, and materials sectors. - Smaller firms (10-49 employees) report the strongest outlook at 46%. I started becoming active on LinkedIn in 2022 when I launched WE CARE as a standalone company, it was then that I realized eldercare isn't just about technology; it's about fostering human connections. Back in 2011, while working at Energeek Pte Ltd on smart building solutions, we provided IoT and smart tech to various sectors, including homes, offices, industrial sites, and hotels. I initially thought eldercare facility monitoring was just another part of this umbrella. I've always viewed diversity within leadership teams as a crucial indicator of their potential success. A few years ago, I commented on a post by the head of the Southeast Asia senior leadership team of a MNC, pointing out that his team lacked Southeast Asians and, in fact, any Asians. The team was comprised solely of Caucasians. This observation led me to question whether the leadership team was truly attuned to the cultural nuances and consumer needs of the Southeast Asian markets. Without local representation, can a leadership team genuinely understand and address the unique challenges and opportunities within these diverse markets? Diversity is not just about ticking boxes; it's about harnessing a range of perspectives and experiences to drive innovation and growth. Leadership teams that reflect the markets they serve are better positioned to make informed decisions and connect authentically with their customers. Ultimately, a diverse leadership team is not only a moral imperative but also a strategic advantage. Embracing diversity leads to richer perspectives, fostering creativity and resilience, and positioning organisations for sustainable success.

Meanwhile, an entrepreneur is an individual who creates a new business, bearing most of the risks and enjoying most of the rewards. On the other hand, an individual with an entrepreneurial mindset is a state of mind characterized to be innovative, resilient, visionary, and persistent in the pursuit of turning ideas into reality. It's an attitude that embraces risk, seeks out solutions, and is driven by a passion for creating value and making a positive impact on the world. Research findings: 1 in 5 Malaysians use AI daily or frequently at work, particularly Gen Zers (36%) and Millennials (24%). 42% of Gen Xers and 73% of Baby Boomers have never used AI in their work. 1 in 3 Malaysians have never used AI at work, while another 10% of respondents have only used AI tools once, showing a significant exposure gap in AI skill development in Malaysia. Always be selling. As the founder of AeroChat, a tech startup, I found myself in unfamiliar territories after more than 20 years in business. Inbound marketing has been how we have gotten business for the past years for my digital marketing business and the channel has served us well. But what you don't practise, slacks over time. And so, when now transitioning to selling a SaaS product instead of the usual services that I've accustomed to "not selling", it was initially painful to reactivate those long-unused muscles. I've been so used to people reaching out to me to talk about their branding and marketing problems, that now when the direction is reversed and I have to be the one reaching out, it was unfamiliar and uncomfortable to say the least. And not going to lie, I still struggle to get the hang of it and be comfortable with it. Always be selling is simple, but not easy. There is so much to learn, and much more to unlearn. What keeps me going though, is the deep conviction of the benefits that our product can bring to the industries and customers we serve. And every day, talking to more people about the benefits of AI automation exposes us to new use cases that validate the purpose of why we are sticking through this. When you find your "Why", nothing can stop you from pushing forward, regardless of the obstacles. So you pull yourself up, straighten your back, and put in one more round today. Always be selling.
