Almost two decades have passed since the Boxing Day tsunami of 2004 which devastated homes, destroyed lives and created a reluctant tragic milestone in several countries who were affected directly. One of the countries affected was Indonesia, in particular the province of Aceh, where more than 160,000 people perished. However the tragic tale is just one part of the Acehnese story. Another part of the Acehnese story showcases the people's grit and their strength to rise and rebuild their lives. Over the past weekend, BH published a news feature covering several stories recounted by survivors, humanitarian aid workers and military personnel, all shared with our team who was in Aceh over several days this month. While their stories of loss and despair still wrench our hearts, equally, their tales of bravery and humanity inspire us. Look out too, for the full video of these tales which will be published in the coming days. Hope their stories can inspire you too. https://lnkd.in/grfeekpU ‘Saya hilang syurga saya.” Ditenggelami gelombang hitam bak dinding gelap setinggi 10 tingkat, anak kelahiran Aceh imbas semula tragedi yang ragut nyawa seluruh keluarganya di Aceh. https://lnkd.in/gXssxXK4 Mangsa tsunami Aceh dapat peluang kehidupan kedua di S’pura https://lnkd.in/gJxth9-2 Hanya berpaut pada dahan, mangsa panjatkan doa minta diselamatkan https://lnkd.in/gA-MtTxs Masjid Raya Baiturrahman jadi tarikan, perkukuh semangat rakyat Aceh hingga hari ini https://lnkd.in/gTqaUDZi Rumah dibangun, dihuni semula selepas hancur dipukul arus deras tsunami https://lnkd.in/gtrqcnUx S’pura prihatin bantu sambil hormati pihak berkuasa, mangsa Aceh https://lnkd.in/g9mKKzhm Daya bingkas penduduk Aceh bakar semangat SAF sokong usaha bantu mangsa https://lnkd.in/g6sTqdWx

Nice one omgxbh ! Did you know BH's Deputy News Editor, Ms Nur Adilah Ahmad Mahbob also shared her views at the conference? Read all about it here 👇 https://lnkd.in/gAD3GZkQ (Don't worry, we have a handy translation tool on the website for anyone who needs it 😉)
We attended the National Translation Committee’s 10th Anniversary Conference! 🎉 Ministry of Digital Development and Information We learned so much at the event—translation may not always seem like the most exciting topic, but it’s a growing field that plays a crucial role in bilingual education. It’s important to remember how translation impacts communication across languages! 💬 ICYMI, insightful sharing by featured speakers: - Haniman Boniran, Senior Manager of Education, Mandai Wildlife Group - Nur El-Hudaa, Editorial Consultant and Independent Translator At the event, we also challenged these speakers to translate iconic song lyrics and asked attendees for their thoughts! Feeling humbled and grateful to have been featured in SPH Media, Berita Harian Singapura! Looking back, SyukEats started 4 years ago with a simple mission –> to support and uplift home-based businesses, especially those in the food scene. It’s incredible to see how far it has come, with over 30,000 followers across social media and an impression/reach crossing the 1 million mark. Some videos even crossed 100k views! What started as a small Instagram/Facebook account has grown into a space that shares hidden food gems and celebrates the diversity of Singapore’s culinary landscape. My journey has been full of surprises. One of the highlights was when Have Halal, Will Travel (Tengku Suzana, Mikhail Melvin Goh and team) reached out to feature SyukEats in a full article (article link at the end of this writing), something I truly didn’t expect! They walked through the story of how SyukEats began, and I’ll always be grateful for the support from such an important platform in the food and travel community. And now, to be interviewed by SPH Media, Berita Harian Singapura - Nur Syuhrah Hassan ? It’s honestly beyond anything I could have imagined when I first started this journey. An amazing article written by Syuhrah, thank you for that Syuhrah. (article link at the end of this writing) But the journey doesn’t stop there. SyukEats has grown even more with incredible opportunities along the way. One of the most recent ones was a collaboration with AirAsia, where I got to explore some lesser-travelled destinations, showcasing the local food scene. I ventured solo to places like Nan, Thailand and Lampung, Indonesia – both unique destinations with rich culinary stories waiting to be shared. This journey is bigger than numbers. I’ve recently shared that I am no longer going for paid reviews because my main goal is to help local businesses grow, without expecting anything in return. It's never been about the cash. Don’t get me wrong, content creation as a career path is incredibly viable, and I see many friends thriving in this space. But for me, it’s about staying true to my original intent of supporting the community and amplifying their voices. 📣 As I continue this journey, I’m exploring an upcoming Ramadan Series 2025—a special project that will spotlight the stories, flavours, and businesses. I am actively looking for potential partners and sponsors—whether: financial, studio space, or shooting resources—to help bring this vision to life. If you or your business are interested in collaborating, please feel free to reach out. I’d love to explore how we can work together to make this series a success! Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. 💙🍴 🔗 Featured on Berita Harian Singapura: https://lnkd.in/gn4jJ-Gd 🔗 Interview with Have Halal, Will Travel: https://lnkd.in/gxKQe6mj #SyukEats #ContentCreation #SupportingLocal #SingaporeFood #RamadanSeries2025 #PartnershipOpportunities

The haj pilgrimage is very close to the hearts of Muslims. It fulfils a key Islamic duty for Muslims and is a journey to cleanse our souls of worldly sins. The long waiting time for Muslims here (and in many parts of the world) to obtain a visa to perform the Haj drives some pilgrims to make the journey using other visa types. Unfortunately, this route did not work out for some. Our Senior Columnist, Nizam Ismail, put together this piece on Haji 'Vip' published in Berita Minggu (24 Nov). Click on the links to read the stories and watch the video on our social media. The visual below is the Page 1 artwork for the story, produced by our talented visual journalist, Mohd Samad Afandie. Our journalist, Shiqin Ramadan, slept on the job recently. 😁 She went through a sleeping test called a polysomnography test that measures the quality of her sleep. There is a Malay saying, 'melentur buluh biarlah dari rebungnya' which means the teaching and nurturing of a child must start when they are young. The world today is vastly different from what it was 20, 30 years ago. Challenges that parents face too have evolved. On 2 November, BH organised a Parenting Conference which was focussed on positive parenting techniques and provided tips for parents in managing difficult conversations with their children. Some 200 parents signed up for the Saturday afternoon conference and benefited greatly from our line-up of speakers. Thank you to our speakers; Social Worker, Nur Hilyah Saparin and motivational speaker, Ustazah Shameem Sultanah as well as our panelists, CEO Hayaa’ Network, Ustazah Liyana Musfirah; AMP Case Officer, Ms Shafiqah Ashur; Executive Chairman SuChi Success Initiatives, Mr Mohamed Khair Mohamed Noor and Mr Danial Iskandar from IM Volunteers Network SG. A big thank you too to the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) for partnering BH in this meaningful initiative.

The M Kuasa Tiga (M³) Forum on Sunday, 10 November, was streamed live on Berita Harian's YouTube channel and Facebook page. Through our live stream, our viewers heard first the details on the College of Islamic Studies announced by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. Kudos to our social media team - on-site at ITE Central and in the newsroom - for bringing the forum 'live' to our audience. Second 📷: BH team covering the forum and managing the live stream (from left) Batrisyia Kamal Baharim (journalist), Irma Kamarudin (correspondent), Abdul Qayyum Sarip (video journalist), Amira Syaheera Azlan (social media producer), Khalid Baba (photojournalist) and Fakhruradzi Ismail (Executive Producer). With them are our MDDI colleagues Mazlena Ahmad Mazlan and Hazwani Hasni. Third 📸: Podcast Producer, Natasha Hazirah Mustafa (left) and Assistant News Editor (Social Media), Ervina, controlling things from the newsroom.
