CVE-2019-8936 Network Time Protocol Daemon (ntpd) Vulnerability in NetApp Products

Summary

Multiple NetApp products contain Network Time Protocol Daemon (ntpd). NTP versions prior to 4.2.8p13 are susceptible to a vulnerability which when successfully exploited could lead to Denial of Service (DoS).

Impact

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could lead to Denial of Service (DoS).

Clustered Data ONTAP versions prior to 9.2 are affected.

For clustered Data ONTAP version 9.2 and higher NTP mode 6 packets are rejected by default. Ensure they have not been re-enabled using the 'cluster time-service ntp security show' advanced privilege command and verifying that 'External queries enabled?' shows as 'false'.
