Summary

Multiple NetApp products contain the Network Time Protocol daemon (ntpd). The Open NTP project (www.ntp.org) has released a Security Notice regarding some recent vulnerabilities that affect versions before ntp-4.2.8p8. These vulnerabilities could allow attackers to use NTP daemons in distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks. This advisory will be updated as additional information becomes available.

Impact

Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could lead to the use of NTP daemons in distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks. NOTE: Both Clustered Data ONTAP and Clustered Data ONTAP are affected only by CVE-2016-4954 which requires that the attacker know the addresses of more than half of the configured sources and only affects ntpd acting as a client. Neither product has plans to address that vulnerability.
