The final presentation of MARINA approaches – see the highlights ✨ Having wrapped up the MARINA project in May, now it’s time for us to present its final results. The Swedish Property Owners Organization are launching a new model to secure 5G coverage indoors. The model provides a clear division of roles between property owners, mobile operators and infrastructure operators. The expansion of the 5G mobile network means that the technology to ensure connection indoors needs to be upgraded. The networks that are now being built have higher wave frequencies which have difficulty penetrating modern walls and windows. When the old mobile networks are shut down, new technical solutions are needed to meet the need. - The current solutions for mobile coverage indoors are no longer sufficient when the range of the mobile network becomes worse, says Kaj Winther, head of digital development. Distribution of roles - This model for indoor 5G coverage provides a clearer division of roles between property owners, mobile operators, infrastructure operators and solution providers. The model clarifies who is responsible for planning, installing and operating indoor systems, as well as supplying and maintaining technical equipment. Where is the benefit of 5G for property owners? - It provides the generally important infrastructure for gigabit wireless performance, which in itself facilitates redundancy and secure access to the network for all of us. In addition to that, property owners want to both use 5G for various property technology and ensure the possibility of delivering indoor coverage to tenants. How far has the real estate industry come in implementing 5G? - Basically nowhere! Before we ourselves came up with "The Swedish Model", there was no possibility for property owners to get high-performance 5G in modern houses that could work regardless of the choice of operator. Why have you developed this model? - We hope to be able to conduct a constructive dialogue with the operators regarding our proposal and then create the conditions for an operator-neutral infrastructure so that not only one operator's customers can use the mobile network. - Incentives and a business model are needed to motivate someone to finance only such an infrastructure. From an economic and sustainability perspective, it should be out of the question for all interested parties to contribute to the construction of four energy-consuming, parallel such networks in each building. What benefit will one get from the model? - Through this new model, users are guaranteed not only stable and reliable 5G coverage, but also a high-quality user experience. How guided should you be by your model? - Our model does not fit into the respective roles' business models, nor does it exclude anyone from any planned business area. - Note that the proposal refers to 5G with the best performance. That is, what most people expect from the most modern technology. It is absolutely possible to have other solutions, but the alternatives must be comparable in terms of price and performance. Nokia has launched several of its new innovations in Midsummer Launch in Finland couple of weeks ago. We have announced two new two compact, next-generation outdoor #Airscale baseband products with 4G-5G and 2G-3G-4G-5G options. These baseband products will support twice as much cell capacity and enhance uplink throughput by up to 30 percent while reducing power consumption by up to 40 percent compared to existing basebands we have. On #Airscale radio portfolio, we have added a new high-performance #Habrok 32 Massive MIMO radio that supports an instantaneous bandwidth of 200MHz. This will enable operators to choose the ideal Massive MIMO solution that best fits their available spectrum assets and deployment needs. We have also launched #Kolibri and all-in-One 5G small cell for indoor and outdoor use cases. #Kolibri products don’t need a separate baseband unit, which enables simplified installations and deployment flexibility. Trend: First responders using mobile networks to communicate! We have seen this coming for a while now - in Sweden as Rakel 2.0 - in Finland as Virve 2.0 and the example below in US being some of them. Sounds like a great plan. Combine already constructed public networks with pieces that will make it an effective emergency communication tool (own core, own slice, own prioritisation, unique positioning access etc...) 80% of emergency calls now come from mobile phones. Having mobile connectivity suddenly have become a life or death issue, both for the person in need as well as the person who are coming to help. Since we spend 90% of our time indoor, it is not unrealistic that this is also where we see most of the emergencies taking place.
