With the aim of developing a design for a fully emission-free ship, we conducted hundreds of tests in wind speeds of up to 40 m/s. Very exciting since this is the first time a combination of hull and six wing sails has been tested on a large scale. 🎦 We've captured the highlights of the test day - don't miss the video showing our joint journey towards more sustainable shipping. 👉 Many thanks to Maritime at RISE who conducted the tests, Volvo Cars for the use of first class facilities, Oceanbird for expertise on the wing sails and Creo Media Manager for capturing the test day. #towardstrulysustainableshipping #windpoweredvessels #windpropulsion #zeroemissionshipping

Leading the way towards truly sustainable shipping
Om oss
To move goods transport from road to sea is one of the key factors to lower air emissions into the atmosphere. Wallenius Marine go one step further by designing ships powered by wind (Oceanbird), using big data to be able to manage ships in the most efficient way and have a highly skilled crew that ensures quality at all times. Our mission is to lead the way towards truly sustainable shipping. We have a long-term perspective and an integrated way of working. Operational feedback is used to optimize the design and enhance performance, and those insights goes into next generation of vessels. The company in short: - Approx 700 employees in Sweden, Singapore, Philippines and Myanmar. - Two ship management offices, placed in Stockholm and Singapore. - Designed and built more than 70 vessels since the mid 90’s with a strong focus on sustainable shipping. - Certified according to ISO 9001:2015 and 14001:2015. - Family owned company and part of the Soya Group.

Together with the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, we are taking the next step in the development of sailing ships through the 6-year SailTech research collaboration. With a focus on reducing emissions and developing sustainable solutions, we are investing in research into wing sails and ships of the future. "If we want to achieve zero-emission solutions, we need to take advantage of the environment - in this case the wind," says Urban Lishajko, Head of Ship Design at Wallenius Marine. Together we can not only drive innovation, but also create more sustainable shipping for future generations 🌍. https://lnkd.in/gbZ-NuPA #Sustainability #Innovation #WindPoweredShipping #WalleniusMarine

Today we are testing a 1.2 tonne multi-wing sail ship model in hurricane winds. Between 6-9 of december, Wallenius Marine is gathered with experts from Maritime at RISE, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and Oceanbird in Gothenburg for a series of crucial tests to validate the latest design for wind-powered PCTC vessels. Over the years, we have put a lot of effort to realise the idea of a wind-powered PCTC vessel. Many tests have been carried out, and great collaborations with academia and partners have brought us to where we are today. And the journey continues... https://lnkd.in/gdhs4sKf #towardstrulysustainableshipping #windpoweredvessels #windpropulsion #zeroemissionshipping

Some days it's easy to get jealous of those who have the privilege of working on board ships. Captain Andreas Hübinette shows the recent, sunny and crisp arrival at the Port of Södertälje. Wow - isn't this a good day at work? Wallenius Marine provides crew and ship management for Lakeway Link which offers a unique sea link for cargo transport between Poland and Sweden. https://lnkd.in/gysH56Te #LakewayLink #LakewayExpress #Sustainableshipping #Fromroadtosea

Yesterday, M/V Way Forward entered her long-term charter for the Volkswagen Group. Today she enters the SEAPORT Emden - The Port of Emden, ready for her first assignment to carry cars between Europe and the United States. Way Forward is the second vessel designed and operated by Wallenius Marine for the Volkswagen Group. Like her sister ship Future Way, the design is optimized for the lowest possible energy consumption and lower emissions with, among other things: 👉 Aerodynamic shape to reduce wind drag 👉 Optimized cargo decks and ramp system 👉 Shaft generator of active front end type, cuts up t o 10% of emissions 👉 Elimination of ballast water under full conditions 👉 Adaptable multi-fuel engines 👉 Shore connection for zero emissions in port Capacity: 6,500 car equivalent units Design: Wallenius Marine, KNUD E. Let us present the team that together with UECC will turn data into insights and insights into actions! We cant't wait to see the upcoming trials of the OVERSEA Fleet Support Center as a Service, which is part of the collaboration between Wallenius Marine and ABB. The center will be tested with UECC, the leading provider of sustainable short sea RoRo transportation in Europe. In these trials, the OVERSEA services of vessel performance cover the main engine, auxiliaries, hull & propeller as well as vessel trim, and CII compliance monitoring. At Wallenius we have a long history of fruitful collaborations. This time we have teamed up with ABB and the finnish platform company Awake.AI. to demonstrate a sea voyage and port call optimization solution. As part of the European Space Agency - ESA this maritime flagship project Decarbonization through the Digitalization in Shipping (DECARDIS), will allow ships to adjust their speed to arrive at the port at the right time instead of having to wait and queue up. By optimizing arrival times, vessels can avoid the “hurry-and-wait” pattern, reducing both fuel consumption and environmental impact. The DECARDIS project is another example of how we can contribute to the vision of truly sustainable shipping through collaboration and partnership. Together, we can go further. The story of Oceanbird began more than ten years ago with our roadmap to eliminate emissions from shipping, called the ZERO Emission Project. Today, it is a great pleasure to see that the joint venture formed between Wallenius and Alfa Laval a few years ago is getting a lot of attention in Dagens Industri. And rightly so! Oceanbird plays an important role in the development of modern wind sails and the ability to supply new and existing ships with wind sails for wind powered propulsion. Wind powered ships are a natural part of the future and an important contribution to the development of the entire industry to achieve the IMO's zero emission target for 2050 and the EU's emission reduction target for 2030.
