🌍 Closing the Innovation Gap in Antimicrobial Resistance Last week, Nina Rawal, Co-Head of Trill Impact Ventures and Partner at Trill Impact Advisory, moderated a session at the UK Embassy in Sweden, led by Dame Sally Davies, UK Special Envoy on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). The event gathered policymakers and industry leaders to tackle #AMR — on track to become the leading global killer by 2050, outpacing both cardiovascular disease and cancer. Despite this urgent threat, innovation in AMR remains stagnant due to a broken commercial model. The UK and Sweden are pioneering new payment models, but we believe broader international collaboration is needed to make AMR drug development commercially viable. Representing the #VC investment community, Nina emphasized that closing the AMR innovation gap is possible. She pointed to the rare disease sector as a prime example, where strategic policy shifts and VC investments have propelled it into one of the more dynamic fields in contemporary medicine. Thank you, Saba Hussein Gore, PhD, and team, for organizing the event and for driving this critical dialogue! #AMR #Innovation #ImpactInvesting #VentureCapital

Christian Rosenholm's message in Børsen today: "Impact investing is growing globally, but more capital is urgently needed to drive positive change." Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting Christian in Stockholm as part of Trill Impact’s internal speaker series, launched in Q2 2024. The initiative aims to foster learning, gain insights on best practices, and spark discussions across our organization on ESG- and Impact-related topics. Other speakers included Petter Reistad, CEO of the sustainability reporting platform Celsia, Meinrad Lugan, Senior MedTech Expert, and Joohee Rand, Head of the Secretariat for the Operating Principles for Impact Management. Thank you to everyone involved in making the series.
A new investment approach is on the rise. Headline this morning if you click www.borsen.dk, the Danish nationwide newspaper focusing on businesses and finance. Fantastic to see impact investing featured in this way in Danish media. The article (behind a pay-wall) is based on The Global Impact Investing Network market insights 2024, joint event with our partner Danish Impact Committee in CPH and a subsequent interview with me. Main message from me is that impact investing is maturing, gaining traction globally - and we still need significantly more capital to intentionally contribute to positive social and environmental impacts alongside financial returns if we are to achieve a sustainable world for all. Time is of the essence, so get engaged, no time to wait for perfect. I have truly enjoyed the interest and engagement from investors of all kind at the recent Impact Investing market trend events in the Nordics, beyond Copenhagen, in Stockholm at Trill Impact and in Oslo organized by NorNAB - Norwegian National Advisory Board for Impact Investing and hosted by Norselab and I look forward to coming back to Stockholm for currently the last event of the year on December 11th organized/hosted by Robert Widén at responsAbility Investments AG. We are thrilled to announce the launch of the third season of our Impact Champion Program. Last week, we welcomed 27 representatives across Trill Impact's portfolio—CEOs, CFOs, Sustainability Managers, and more—committed to accelerating ESG and impact initiatives in the companies. Building on two years of foundational support from the program, we're excited to deepen the portfolio companies' impact journeys. This season, we’re empowering participants through eight peer-led workshops, where they’ll share practical strategies and best practices and collaborate on new opportunities to drive impactful value creation. In our first session, Torsten Muth, Chief Commercial Officer at karriere tutor GmbH demonstrated how they integrated impact criteria into their product development and discussed their process for analyzing and identifying new courses to address current skills gaps in Germany. We’re excited to see the strong engagement across all portfolio companies, each eager to make a difference. We look forward to upcoming sessions and continuing to build impactful businesses.

Last week at TECHARENA ZERO in Stockholm, Chloe Fu, Ventures Investment Associate at Trill Impact Advisory, participated in a panel on the topic of Investing in Green Opportunities alongside Johanna Lundgren Gestlöf from SPP, Johan Trocmé from Nordea, and Karin Wessman from EKN Exportkreditnämnden, moderated by Linda Nyberg. "The Nordics are one of the leading impact investing ecosystems globally, mainly owing to a deep cultural focus on sustainability, large public and private commitments to sustainable investments, and a startup scene that has bred more unicorns per capita than Silicon Valley. The content and attendance at Techarena ZERO were a testament to that leadership, bringing together stakeholders from Sweden's largest public institutions, banks, startups, and investors. The panel discussed the intersection of climate investments from four diverse perspectives - pension funds, banks, exports, and venture capital - and explored each of their respective roles in accelerating the scale of critical technologies to meet emission reduction and net zero targets by 2030 and 2050", says Chloe Fu.

Last week, Trill Impact attended the GIIN Impact Forum in Amsterdam. The event gathered professionals from all over the world to connect, interact, network, and share knowledge on innovative strategies and industry developments within #impactinvesting. Hetal Damani, Impact Partner at Trill Impact Advisory, says: “The GIIN Impact Forum brings together the impact investment community and facilitates important discussions. The members talk on how to bridge the #SDGs' financing gap was particularly interesting. Should the investment community scale up as much capital as possible towards impact investments? Should the focus be on helping make already deployed capital more effective or channeling new capital to where it is most needed? I came here to have more conversations like this. To collect ideas, learn and share how best practices are evolving, and understand what peers are thinking". #impactinvesting #GIIN

Last week, Nina Rawal, Co-Head of Trill Impact Ventures & Partner at Trill Impact Advisory, moderated the inaugural conference for the Stockholm-Uppsala Life Science Cluster. The conference addressed the importance of innovation clusters for translating science into innovation and improving patient outcomes. Key stakeholders such as government, academia, and industry were all represented, and they highlighted that the cluster has many of the important ingredients needed to become world-leading. “In my view, the Uppsala cluster has many important ingredients, such as Europe’s third strongest talent pool. Becoming a world-leading cluster requires long-term dedication from politicians, academia, and industry. The conference showcased their encouraging commitment to this goal”, says Nina Rawal.”
