At the IFPA Conference 2024, interim results from the POSITIVE Study- The study goes beyond looking at the severity of psoriasis and showcased the benefits of a with focus on well-being . This groundbreaking research highlights not only improvements in physical symptoms but also in overall patient wellbeing, shedding light on the significant psychosocial burden of psoriasis. The study emphasizes how effective treatment can enhance daily activities and improve quality of life, going beyond symptom relief. The POSITIVE study is unique in its focus on patients' overall wellbeing, using the WHO-5 wellbeing index to assess mental and emotional health. This patient-centered approach is paving the way for dermatologists to take a more holistic view of treatment, considering both physical and emotional aspects of care. Psoriatic disease is more than skin deep. Treatment needs to do more than clearing the skin lesions. Improving the quality of life of those with the disease needs to be an essential measured outcome. In a recent study, almost 50% of participants receiving treatment reported that the disease had no longer an impact on their quality of life. Ever wondered how people living with psoriatic disease feel about their care? Psoriasis and Beyond research study- with nearly 5000 participants survey reported that : 59% feel uninvolved in deciding treatment goals, and 40% say the mental well-being impact isn't fully understood by healthcare professionals. Of those surveyed, less than 1/3 of those living with psoriatic disease are aware of its linked comorbidities like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, depression and anxiety, and psoriatic arthritis. Psoriasis and Beyond is a joint research initiative between IFPA, 16 national psoriasis organizations and Novartis AG.
