Why does the job exist?
This position:
*Works with a team of accountants in a fast paced, high volume environment that has multiple priorities and deadlines.
*Must be familiar with Department policies, statutes and procedures that govern the fiduciary responsibilities over the distribution of tax revenues collected by the Department.
*Maintains the highest degree of accountability and financial reporting for tax revenues collected and distributed on behalf of the state of New Mexico.
*Accounts for and reports tax revenues collected and distributed by the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department (TRD).
How does it get done?
The position is responsible for:
*Recording transactions to the general ledger
*Preparing reconciliations
*Maintaining the accuracy of the general ledger
*Preparing monthly financial reports for use of executive management and external oversight agencies
*Reviewing monthly distributions and reconciliations prepared in the TAA division for Financial Services Bureau
*Reviewing and analyzing new legislation to define business requirements
*Testing during implementation of new legislation and CRS Rates within the tax reporting software (GenTax)

The customers are both internal and external customers that include:
*Executive management
*Bureau chiefs, unit managers and supervisors
*Oversight agencies
*Taxpayers of the State of New Mexico
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have:
*Experience in accounting, finance, economics and/or statistical analysis
*Expert level analytical and financial modeling skills in accounting, auditing, and/or budgeting
*Proficiency in all phases of General Ledger activities: journal entry, auditing, reconciliation
*Organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast paced high volume environment
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration and four (4) years of experience in accounting, finance, economics and/or statistical analysis.

Employment Requirements
Must be current with all tax reporting/payments, possess and maintain a valid NM Driver's License and a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of NM or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.

include fingerprint checks and pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), extensive personal computer and phone usage.
