* La Puente is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization serving Colorado's San Luis Valley by providing food, shelter, and advocacy for the homeless and community members in crisis.
La Puente was founded in 1982 and endeavors to meet immediate needs and to empower people to live independently with dignity.
The organization operates a homeless shelter and soup kitchen, a network of 13 food pantries, homeless prevention services, a transitional living program for families, after school and summer programs for at-risk children, and a community garden and nutrition education program.
*Job title *Bookkeeper *Reports to *Director of Finance *Job purpose* The Bookkeeper will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer to support and ensure effective financial and human resources (HR) operations for the organization.
The Bookkeeper will develop competencies in all areas of financial management and HR functions and identify the responsibilities *Duties and responsibilities* ● Accounting * Payroll processing * Reconciliation of Balance Sheet accounts * Assistance with preparing monthly packets (financial statements, managers’ reports, statistics and required correspondence) for CFO, Operations Manager, and the Enterprises Board * Assistance with Accounts Payable, Deposits, and Grant Management * Assistance with Housing rents for Emperius, OTR and Adelante * Assistance with other duties and support as deemed necessary by Assistant Director or CFO ● Human Resources * Cross train with Full Time Volunteers to manage HR enrollments and other issues * Orientation of all new hires, processing of new hire paperwork, and maintenance of all HR files * Assistance with all benefits enrollments, tracking, and other HR activities * Assistance with maintaining up-to-date knowledge of employee handbook, employment laws, and other HR compliance * Assistance with recruitment process ● Support the needs and perform the duties requested by the Chief Financial Officer.
* Performs special projects and tasks as requested by the CFO, or Executive Director * Work with CFO on budget for 3 Companies * Oversee Inter Company accounts reconciliations * Other duties and support as deemed necessary by Executive Director *Qualifications* Education: ● Degree from an accredited college or university or Bookkeeping Certificate.
Experience: (Most important!) Three years of accounting / bookkeeping, nonprofit, or related experience.
● Knowledge of basic accounting and QuickBooks Proficiency in the use of computers for: ● Software management ● Word processing ● Databases ● Spreadsheets ● Email ● Internet *Attributes of an ideal candidate:* * Values driven * Self-starter, and excited to learn, apply, and teach new skills.
* Ability to cultivate and establish strong peer relationships * Ability to work both independently and as a team.
*Working conditions* ● Full-time ● Work in an office environment in Alamosa.
● Usually work a standard work week, Monday through Friday, 8-5pm.
● May be asked to support various La Puente events on weekends or special projects or training.
*Wages and Benefits* Salary $40-$45k DOE Benefits: a.
60 or 70% of Health Insurance, depending on plan (Bronze or Silver) b.
