Operating Room Assistant

The Operating Room Assistant primarily works as a surgical assistant to help our surgeons in the surgical recovery of organs for transplant.
You will primarily be working with abdominal surgeons but may also assist cardiothoracic surgeons as well.
Our work takes us to numerous hospitals in Utah and beyond, and your ability to share your transplant knowledge with the various OR staff is invaluable.
You will play a critical role in ensuring that donated organs for transplant are recovered, handled, and packaged correctly to provide the best opportunity for a successful transplant.
Successful candidates should have solid experience in the OR and participate in the surgery.
This is a great opportunity for a well-rounded Surgical Technologist who is looking to expand their skills and career, or maybe an OR Nurse with scrub experience who wants more surgical time.

This is a PRN position with no guaranteed or expected hours.
Work opportunity is entirely driven by case activity, which varies widely.
Most of our PRN pool averages 10 to 12 hours per week.
Individual averages may vary according to interest and availability.
"Shifts" are often short notice, and may take place anytime, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications:
Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check and drug screen

Training/Education/Certification:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Completion of a recognized Surgical Technologist course is required, National CST certificate is preferred
Experience Required:
Two years experience as a surgical technician or four years experience in organ/tissue recovery with applicable OR knowledge
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of medical terminology
Knowledge of organ and tissue transplant fields
Understanding of the operating room environment
Excellent public relations and interpersonal abilities
Solid oral and written communication skills
Attentive to detail and able to maintain accurate records
Able to work well with all levels of personnel in hospital settings and within the differing guidelines of each institution
Works well under stressful conditions
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
Ability to lift up to 70 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
Ability to stoop, squat, or bend frequently
Exposure to patient elements including communicable disease, bloodborne pathogens, and other common hazards of a clinical setting
Ability to reason logically and make sound decisions, to consider alternative and diverse perspectives, to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
