The Credit Recovery Tutor in the Independent Learning Lab at Granite Connection High School is a unique position in Granite School District.
It is a combination of tutor, clerk, motivator, and complex problem solver.
The employee performs all the duties listed below, but also carries out the instructions of the classroom teacher.
She or he may make suggestions to improve curriculum, and reports problems in existing courses.
Tutors often work without direct supervision as the teacher in charge of the classroom cannot be there for all the hours the classroom is open.
*Responsibilities*:
* Advise high school students as they work towards earning a high school diploma
* Tutor students who need help with assignments
* Evaluate, correct, and grade student work
* Keep accurate records of student progress for about 4 dozen students at a time
* Collaborate with colleagues in the classroom
* Communicate with students, parents, and program supervisors in the high school and adult education
* Help students find motivation to reach their goals
* Field phone calls from school officials, parents, students, case workers, and others, answering questions about student progress, Learning Lab services and hours, and direct callers to the appropriate education professionals who can refer the student to the program
* Work without direct supervision when carrying out duties in the late afternoon and evening
*Required for employment:*
* High school diploma
* Pass criminal background check (required for working with students)
*Skills/Education:*
* Must have a good working knowledge of the required high school curriculum, especially math, science, and language arts
* Prefer (but not require) bilingual skills (Spanish/English)
* Some college experience a plus
