This position reports to the Assistant Director of Library Academic Services.
As a member of the Open Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) cross-institutional team this position provides support for open education activities.
Supports faculty and staff by providing OER discovery and copyright review, offers CC licensing consultations and support for OER publishing platforms.
Provides open access guidance at the College.
This position will also act as a liaison to one of the schools at SLCC.
Will engage in the Library Liaison program by coordinating with faculty and academic administrators to help provide the resources needed for student and faculty success.
The Librarian will provide information literacy instruction, research assistance, and reference services for students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties Open Education Initiatives: Serve on Open SLCC council.
Support faculty and staff by providing OER discovery.
Provide support for OER publishing platforms such as Pressbooks.
Assist with the creation of best practices related to OER creation, accessibility, Open Pedagogy, and Justice Equity Diversity and Inclusion concepts.
Assist with creation and implementation of professional development opportunities for faculty and staff.
As a member of the Utah Academic Library Consortium support statewide OER initiatives in higher education.
Participate in college, state, and regional OER committees.
Liaison Services: Participate in the Library Liaison program, establishing effective communication channels and dedicated Library contacts with assigned College areas.
Cultivate collaborative relationships with faculty, administrators, and departments within assigned College areas.
Increase awareness and utilization of Library resources and services through proactive outreach efforts.
Maintain an understanding of discipline-specific Library resources and services.
Ensure responsiveness to the needs of liaison areas through coordination with various Library departments.
Facilitate incorporation of information literacy instruction opportunities into the curriculum.
Stay updated on faculty research interests and provide tailored support, such as assisting in locating requested research materials.
Support departmental events related to research.
Participate in Professional development activities.
Participate in library, college, and state-wide teams, committees and organizations in order to advance the mission of the College, the Library and the profession.
Instruction: Deliver evidence-based information literacy instruction in various modalities, utilizing the College’s information literacy General Education learning outcome, ACRL’s “Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education,” and pedagogical best practices to ensure students acquire essential information literacy skills for retrieving, creating, analyzing, using, and engaging with information critically.
Incorporate cultural relevance and inclusivity in instruction to support the College’s diverse student body and Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity goals.
Collaborate with faculty to integrate information literacy into programs, courses, and assignments.
Encourage student learning and engagement through active learning and inclusive learning environments.
Design robust student learning outcomes, develop authentic assessments, and analyze data to measure student learning and enhance instructional methods.
Assess student learning outcomes with faculty and others when appropriate.
Provide personalized research support to students and facilitate professional development sessions for faculty, staff, and administrators.
Participate in peer teaching evaluations.
Pursue professional development to improve instruction.
Collection Development: Participate in materials selection, acquisition, evaluation, and removal.
Utilize collections data to inform collection development decisions.
Research new information resources and research tools in multiple formats including print, recorded materials, electronic and streaming media.
Develop collections to support curricular and departmental needs.
Other duties as assigned.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent from an ALA accredited institution or an international equivalent recognized by ALA.
Preferred Qualifications Experience with OER, open education, materials, and/or scholarly publication.
Experience with copyright, open licenses, fair use, and/or Copyright Clearance Center processes.
Academic library experience.
Instruction experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of current trends in OER, open education, and open scholarship.
Demonstrated ability to learn new tools and skills to support open scholarship and open education.
Working knowledge of current laws and trends in copyright, fair use, intellectual property, and open licensing (e.
g.
, Creative Commons).
Ability to become and maintain certification in copyright and open licensing (e.
g.
: Creative Commons certification, CCC certification, etc.
).
Working knowledge of or ability to learn about current trends in scholarly publication.
Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, administrators, and students.
Demonstrated success building and maintaining excellent interpersonal relationships.
Experience with planning and providing instruction in an academic setting through a variety of instructional methods and technologies.
Familiarity with and experience applying ACRL’s “Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education” in instruction.
Ability to work under minimal supervision and use professional judgement to accomplish required outcomes.
Ability to communicate and effectively interact with people with a broad range of diverse cultures, abilities, ethnic backgrounds and foster an inclusive, equitable and welcoming environment.
Ability to manage, coordinate, communicate, set priorities and boundaries, and collaborate across departments, divisions, schools, and institutions.
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
