Position Summary
This role manages daily program operations of the McNair Program: a federally funded program that prepares low-income, first-generation students and/or students from groups underrepresented in graduate education for doctoral studies.
The program’s goal is to increase the number of students from underrepresented groups who go on to graduate study.
The program coordinator recruits eligible students, assists with the development and implementation of program activities and services to McNair Scholars, and supports students in all aspects of the graduate application process.
This role supports students by providing resources and training to increase the number of students from underrepresented groups who go on to graduate study.
Primary Responsibilities
Responsibility Recruiting and Selecting Participants
Description
Recruit local undergraduate students from low-income, first-generation backgrounds and/or from groups underrepresented in graduate education (Black/African American, Hispanic/Latinx, American Indian/Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander) who are interested in preparing to pursue a PhD.
Coordinate application process, interview and selection process.
Responsibility Program Administration & Student Support
Description
Manage student portfolios, including action plans addressing identified needs, measurements of student progress, and documentation of program participation.
Organize and coordinate day-to-day services including graduate school preparation workshops and classes.
Provide academic counseling and support, leading to participants’ successful transition from undergraduate to graduate education.
Travel with students to conferences and trainings as requested.
Coordinate and implement the McNair Summer Research Intensive program.
Create program newsletter and social media content in an effort to promote the program.
Update and maintain program web site.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of three years experience in program development, project coordination, project management and/or curriculum development
- Understanding of and empathy toward diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds;
- Teaching experience; familiarity with culturally responsive pedagogies
- Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills;
- Experience with office administration (word processing, filing, etc)
- Demonstrated research skills
- Experience with database and information management systems
- Experience working with underrepresented students (Black, Hispanic/Latinx, American Indian/Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander), low-income, first-generation college students, and a familiarity with the TRIO programs.

D.
or terminal degree preferred.

- McNair alumnus is preferred.
