"Bidding wars" shouldn't make the news when it comes to procurement. When you're sourcing from suppliers, it can be easy to get caught up in the excitement of beating down costs. But there's a more sustainable way - reverse auctions. Why reverse auctions rock: 1. Suppliers compete for your business 2. You incentivize continuous improvement 3. You can test your negotiation skills 4. You weed out low-quality goods Use it right and reverse auctions will up your procurement game. But remember - the ultimate goal is to build lasting partnerships and mutual trust with your suppliers. Get sourcing.

Keeping your suppliers happy is an important part of procurement practice. Why? 1. They can give you exclusive deals 2. They can offer cost-saving innovations 3. They can be your supportive partner in times of need A good supplier relationship is key and builds an environment of trust. So, how to improve it? 👉 Be transparent about your expectations 👉 Foster an open dialogue 👉 Work collaboratively to achieve shared goals 👉 Give feedback regularly It may take time to build a strong relationship, but it's worth it. A great post from Waleed AlSaeedi FCIPS. I’m surprised that the article’s Top 10 doesn’t include building or enhancing stakeholder relationships so procurement are viewed as trusted advisors and engaged with earlier in the process. Many challenges we see CPO’s deal with on a regular basis are based on stakeholder management, communication and engagement. If this is done correctly then a lot of other points in the top 10 become much easier to implement.

Nobody in Procurement talks about the mental health impact of non compliance. 5 years ago it would hit me hard - why is x person acting in this way? - did I not communicate well? - is our business at risk? You can spend weeks beating yourself up and being frustrated with stakeholders. But I’ll tell you this: - you can have a clear policy - you can have exec level buy in - you can be an elite level communicator - you can have brilliantly simple processes Some stakeholders will never engage Procurement at the right time. Why? Because at a fundamental level humans are fallible and everyone in business thinks they know how to buy. I’ve learned not to carry this fallibility on my shoulders To realise that very few set out deliberately to do the wrong thing. The only question I’ll ask myself is Have I done all I can to educate and communicate effectively within the business? Then I move on to where I can truly add value And you should too. #Lalji

Just wrapped up an incredible experience at the LEAD Network Europe Annual Conference in Budapest! 🌍✨ As a volunteer in the LEAD Network Supply Chain Chapter, I had the privilege of engaging with inspiring leaders and passionate advocates for gender equality, psychological safety, and diversity in all its forms. Here are my key takeaways: Championing Gender Equality: achieving true gender equality goes beyond representation; it requires systemic changes in decision-making processes to empower women at all levels. We must actively challenge unconscious biases and create environments where everyone can thrive. Psychological Safety as a Foundation: A key theme was the importance of psychological safety in the workplace. When team members feel safe to express their ideas and concerns without fear of judgment, it fosters innovation and collaboration. This is essential for creating inclusive cultures that respect diverse perspectives. Diversity Drives Innovation: The conference reinforced that diversity is not just a goal but a critical driver of business success.
