  • Google: helped to open-source Material design icons

    - o momento

This was back when I was leading design at @soundhound and we had to constantly waste time in @illustrator rebuilding them from screenshots

The icon library is currently available for every designer on the planet by searching google for “Material Icons Library” or Google Fonts for the same

  • Amazon: Fixed Appstore dev console so you can individually deselect country availibility like Russia/China

    -

  • Amazon: got Amazon AWS to implement U2F authentication

  • App Store Connect: helped get screenshot upload and rearrange to work smoothly and not fail

    -

  • App Store Connect: helped get video preview upload to work smoothly and not fail

    -

  • Apple: helped screenshot uploads to not hang-up and fail for developers

    -

  • Apple: helped to add screenshot experimentation like Google Play Store

    -

  • Apple: helped to make it easy for developers to view all versions of current legal agreements in one place

    -

  • Apple: helped to not stop screenshot experiments every time an app is updated

    -

It sounds stupid but it’s also Apple 🙃

  • Apple: helped to NOT stop screenshot experiments every time an app update was shipped

    -

  • Apple: helped to provide summary Developer Agreement Updates

    -

I realized it was not possible for small developers to re-read the developer agreements every month and find all the changes like ‘Where’s Waldo’ and they actually did it so they are available every time they change at https://developer.apple.com/news/

  • Apple: helped to reimplent pricing on a per-country level rather than having BS indexed pricing selectors for the entire planet

    -

  • Apple: Reduced time you have to wait to update IOS subscriptions from 3+ days to 0-1 days

    -

  • Apple: Successfully advocated for “Do Not Disturb While Driving” mode

    -

This one was the result of a child getting dragged to death by a quarry truck when I was living in Cupertino. I actually showed up to city hall and advocated for the city council to put pressure on their home corporation Apple to add such a mode to iPhones to prevent distracted driving. A year later it shipped into iOS!

  • Asana: helped to implement link branding for links to Figma and other platforms so the link URLs did not need to be described with additional text

    -

  • Figma: came up with and helped to implement in-file links

    -

This allows cross-file linking and building of design databases and entirely new production/documentation pipelines within Figma

  • Figma: helped fix authentication to support multiple customer accounts

    -

Customers who had more than one Figma account had to insure a really crap XP so I fixed that. Now you can be signed in to as many accounts as you want and switch between them easily!

  • Figma: Helped get web-browser drag-and-drop into Figma working

    -

  • Figma: helped to allow official Material Icons Plug-in

    -

This is based on me getting Google to open-source access to the icons on web in the first place 🥇

  • Google Play Console: advocated for automated minimum price ranges against US dollar

    -

For some countries $1 ( or one dollars worth in their currency ) is way too much for an IAP when you can buy a dinner for the same amount. Not only did the console not allow you to adjust the values below one dollar until I helped advocate for this but the minimum ranges of how far down it could be adjusted were hardcoded in many countries to not go low enough ( this system should now allow those minimums to be settable to ranges that account for actual purchasing power that changes over time )

  • Google Play Console: helped fix keystores so if developers lost them it would not perma-break their apps

    -

  • Google Play Console: Successfully advocated for ability to be able to roll back builds in redesigned console

    -

this feature got removed after the redesign so for some reason first couple months of the redesign if you rolled out or partially rolled out a bad build you could not remove it - only roll it over with another follow-up emergency build

  • Google Play Console: successfully advocated for adding console interface to prompt customers to update passively vs forced

    -

You could trigger an opt-in update prompt but since there wasn't a mechanism to tell a client when it was on a version that was too old you couldn't differentiate it from a mandatory update prompt. This is why developers on Android have just been building their own blocker screens and triggering them in their own ways. We tried to come up with an odd-even serial number system where if there was a certain version code it would trigger the forced update blocking state for all older builds…

You could trigger an opt-in update prompt but since there wasn't a mechanism to tell a client when it was on a version that was too old you couldn't differentiate it from a mandatory update prompt. This is why developers on Android have just been building their own blocker screens and triggering them in their own ways. We tried to come up with an odd-even serial number system where if there was a certain version code it would trigger the forced update blocking state for all older builds. However this simply did not work reliably and we had to reach out to Google to just add this to the console itself ( which is a way better solution overall imo )

  • Google Play Console: Successfully advocated for keyword recommendations in console

    -

Having to rely on external keyword recommendations systems to Google/Apple consoles - successfully advocated for V1 of an internal system to the console which analyzes your app and recommends keywords to use in the description in order to rank higher

  • Google: Got Android IDE updates to automatically update whatever is needed without developers having to manually select and configure mandatory update components

    -

  • Instagram: came up with reel replies to reels

    -

This was work I did at @kamcord that my CEO went and re-implemented on his Instagram team as PM
