A few years ago, as I started investing in European B2B Software companies out of a freshly raised Innovation Nest F2, I stumbled upon Infraspeak in a newsletter. My preference for clear vertical market software companies got me immediately interested in the company. I somehow managed to leverage my network and reach Felipe Ávila da Costa 🇺🇦🕊 - one of the co-founders. At the time, Infraspeak was a tiny startup but its dreams of disrupting the Facility Management market were far from small. I tried to convince Felipe and Luís Martins to let me invest in their company. It wasn't easy. I believe it took me 18 months but finally, we took an allocation in their seed round. Fast forward to 2024 - Infraspeak just announced that it has closed an €18M series B to fuel further expansion across several European markets and Brazil. As Felipe always says - they are 1% done. Market-defining companies sometimes take some time to "take off". Infraspeak is at an inflexion point to become the market leader in global Facility Management software. Clean Future, promoted by Unicorn Factory Lisboa, is an acceleration program that, over 10 weeks, will support the development of technological solutions to improve the sustainability of the cities of the future. It focuses on three categories with the greatest impact in combating climate change: construction, mobility, and retail. The program is supported by three partners for each category: MEXT (Mota-Engil), EMEL, and GS1 Portugal, along with the Sustainability Partner, Eletrão, and the Support Partner, Galp. This year it is the second edition of the program gains an international component for cities such as Helsinki, Marseille, and San Sebastian through Ecosystem Partners - Urban Tech Helsinki, L'Accélérateur, and Fomento San Sebastian. The main goal of the program is to provide startups with access to more markets, knowledge, and contacts, as well as to contribute to the construction of a broader and more international ecosystem in the field of sustainability. Can we scale up love? We all have our own ways of developing innovation. Last week, at a Nova SBE Haddad Entrepreneurship Institute event I got to know a singular one - and "love" is at its heart. The Patient Innovation Bootcamp by EIT Health and Carnegie Mellon University focuses on scaling up medical and care solutions that patients and their close partners developed for their own health problems. Solutions that people developed for themselves and loved ones, to solve serious medical issues and that those people tested on themselves - and, that they believe can solve the same problems in other people. There are "electronic eyes" developed by parents for their vision-impaired children. There is a story of a deadly cardiac diagnosys on a smart engineer that considered it "just a plumbing problem". There are serious problems - and people that faced them head-on and decided they wanted to share their solutions with the world. In a way, I really do think they are "scaling up love" - is that possible?

Two weeks tomorrow we will be at Web Summit in Lisbon. We are exhibiting in the Alpha Startup section on the first day, Tuesday 12th November. This will mark the official start of our fundraising campaign. We will demonstrate the tech stack we have built, which is in the market, and show the new version 2 features, which are close to release. This includes the first application of an AI layer to automate rewards and completely sidestep POS integration, keeping meed as a self-onboarding product, not an installed service. meed is changing how loyalty works, not just disrupting but completely dismantling a broken system as we know it and rebuilding it in a new model that removes customer fragmentation and frustration.
