More than 130 participants from 16 countries on 4 continents 🌍 took part in the 🚀 13th edition of the “Development Trends in Space Propulsion Systems” conference, which was held on December 5-6, 2024 at Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation. As part of the event, for the first time, the Professor Piotr Wolański Awards were presented to individuals and institutions that have contributed to the development of space propulsion technology. The main theme of this year’s conference was new space propulsion systems. Due to trends in the sector, the development of new green technologies was discussed. There were also many presentations on both satellite and rocket propulsion. The conference showcased a wide range of propulsion technologies that are likely to become part of new space systems. Panel discussions covered the specifics of the development of green propulsion systems that have the potential to replace current solutions. In particular, the difference in raising technology readiness and deployment of technologies for institutional missions (e.g., European Space Agency - ESA) versus new space missions resounded. This year conference’s edition we are introducing the Professor Piotr Wolański Special Awards. Professor Piotr Wolański was the originator and creator of the conference "Development Trends in Space Propulsion Systems". He was an outstanding specialist with international recognition in the field of chemical propulsion systems, in particular rotating detonation engines (RDE). His team managed to make the world's first launch of a rocket powered by a single detonation engine. His research interests covered also green propulsion. He inspired the development of the method for obtaining highly concentrated and purified hydrogen peroxide. This year, the AMBER 2K suborbital rocket, with the use of this oxidizer, reached 101 km of altitude and made it into space. Professor Wolański passed away in 2023. By constituting these awards, the organizers want to honor his outstanding achievements and inspire the next generations of engineers and scientists. The awards will be presented on December 5, 2024 at the Gala Dinner. Interested in broadening your knowledge in recent advances in space propulsion? Join us on December 5-6, 2024 in Warsaw.
