Kinect, in partnership with the Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNG Unitech), successfully facilitated the Smart Village Project Community WiFi training program for site administrators from the Southern Highlands, Eastern Highlands, Jiwaka, and Morobe Provinces. In addition to the site administrators, the training was attended by members of the Smart Village Project technical team and communications engineering students from Unitech, on the 29th of August. The project, aims to improve connectivity in remote areas and advancing digital access for communities. The training, hosted by Unitech’s Department of Communications Engineering, focused on key aspects of the Community WiFi VSAT system. Participants were guided through crucial components, including site surveying for installation, system configuration, network maintenance, and the integration of billing systems. The was to ensure that local administrators can effectively manage and maintain the systems, thereby promoting sustainable internet access in underserved communities. Training sessions were led by Herman Kunsei, the Project Coordinator and Head of the Department of Communications Engineering in the School of Electrical and Communications Engineering, along with Kinect Director Alex Roalakona Jr. Alex's expertise and experience in installing and managing community wifi systems was vital as both trainers provided hands-on guidance to equip participants with the technical knowledge required to manage the community wifi system effectively. This project highlights Kinect's commitment to working with the PNG University of Technology to empower local communities through technology and education, ensuring that more people in rural areas can benefit from fast, affordable and reliable internet access.

KINECT COMPLETES FIRST INTERNATIONAL ENGAGEMENT Kinect is delighted to have been involved in the successful delivery of the recently completed Top End T20 Series in Darwin, Australia. Now in its 3rd edition, the series was played between the 9th and 18th of August and featured professional teams from across Australia and Southeast Asia. Engaged to support the team from PNG-based media house Pidgin Productions, Kinect’s Head of Technical was tasked with providing broadcast engineering support to ensure that broadcasters and webcasters around the world received the best possible feed for their viewers. Kinect played a direct role in the webcast—an internet-based alternative to traditional broadcasting. Our Head of Technical ensured that the production team had reliable and uninterrupted connectivity during the streaming of matches and assisted with troubleshooting and resolving connectivity issues that arose during the broadcast. This allowed more than 60,000 viewers to enjoy a sublime viewing experience of top-notch Top End cricket. The successful broadcast of the Top End T20 Series marks Kinect’s first international engagement and follows our work with Pidgin Productions on the broadcast of the 2024 Isuzu T20 Smash Tournament in April in Port Moresby.
