The mother and sister of Hannah Kobayashi, 30, said she departed from Maui on Friday, Nov. 8. Kobayashi was supposed to make the connecting flight in Los Angeles to New York City where she was scheduled to land on Saturday, Nov. 9, Fox affiliate KHON reported. “And then so I reached out to her and I’m like, ‘Hey, are you in New York yet?’ And she’s like, ‘Not yet.’ And it was weird because the flight that she was supposed to go on had already flown,” Brandi Yee, Kobayashi’s mother, recalled to the outlet. According to the family, Kobayashi’s last pinned location was at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Monday, Nov. 11, KGMB/KHNL and KHON reported. Additionally, a friend apparently received strange text messages from Kobayashi’s phone that stated such things as “I got tricked pretty much into giving away all my funds” and “For someone I thought I loved,” reported KGMB. Missing Swimmer Left By Friends Found a Day Later, Didn't Realize Search Helicopters Were for Him “We know her phone’s off because it goes straight to voicemail,” Sydni Kobayashi, the missing woman’s sister, told KHON. “We’ve been trying to call and call and call, text. None of the texts are getting delivered. We can’t locate her phone.” Emi Ko, who wrote in a GoFundMe description that she is Kobayashi’s cousin, said: “Her movements have been unclear, her phone has been shut off and her family and friends have been working tirelessly to retrace her steps.” Kobayashi has not been heard from since Monday, Nov. 11, Ko added. In an email to PEOPLE on Friday, Nov. 15, the Los Angeles Police Department said that a missing persons report was filed.
