On Tuesday, the Mesa Police Department confirmed they were "working a plane crash at Greenfield and McKellips Road," urging people to take different routes due to roads being closed in a post shared on X (formerly known as Twitter).

"Update on traffic from last nights plane crash. Greenfield is still closed in both directions from McKellips to McDowell. All other traffic is open. If you work in the area that’s closed down, officers are letting people in to their work site," police then posted on X on Wednesday.

The NTSB told PEOPLE an investigation was underway.

"While on site, the investigators will begin the process of documenting the scene and examining the aircraft. The aircraft will then be recovered to a secure facility for further evaluation," the NTSB said in a statement.
