Kim Kardashian West Shares Birthday Tribute to Late Father Robert: 'I Wish You Were Here'

It’s a special day for the Kardashian family: Friday marks what would have been the late Robert Kardashian‘s 75th birthday.

Kim Kardashian West, 38, commemorated her late father with a throwback photo of the pair from her 16th birthday.

“Happy Birthday dad!!!!! This was my Sweet 16 and this is the moment my dad surprised me with my first car!” she wrote. “I wish you were here so badly so we could have so many more memories! We are all missing you and celebrating you today!”

In the photo, Kardashian West holds her dad’s hand as she smiles, looking delighted and surprised.

Two years ago, the reality star shared the full video from 1996 of the moment she received the car.

“I told Kimberly that she’s getting a car, and she’s afraid that I got her a Camaro,” Robert can be heard saying with one arm around his 16-year-old daughter as the rest of the partygoers laugh. “Kimberly’s afraid that’s what she’s getting for her birthday. She’s so scared! I feel her shaking now. But we got her a different kind of car. It’s outside, if you want to go look at it — unless you’re too scared to go look at it!”

Blindfolded, Kardashian West heads outside and is met with a brand new white BMW.

“Hey Kimberly. Hope you enjoy your brand new automobile,” he says to the camera after the big reveal. “I enjoyed it, and I can’t wait until you start smoking or you start drinking and I can take your car away and I can keep it. So hopefully, I can get you drunk so I can keep the car!”

“Happy birthday,” he adds. “You are the best, you’re gorgeous, you deserve this automobile — and it better be clean every week.”

Kourtney Kardashian also honored her dad on social media by posting a throwback photo from 1993.

“Father-daughter dance 1993. Happy Birthday to the best daddy I could have ever imagined,” she wrote. “Your love shines through all of us and we feel your protection.”

The late Robert, a businessman and attorney, became a household name when he helped defend friend O.J. Simpson during his infamous 1994 murder trial. Robert was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in July 2003, and died less than eight weeks later, at age 59, on Sept. 30, 2003.
