Sofia Vergara is so committed to her signature glossy waves, we imagine she wakes up with them every day. As a matter of fact, the actress pretty much promised us that she wouldn’t stray from the look until well after she turned 60. But Sunday night, Vergara threw us a serious beauty curve ball, sporting a half-up look despite her pony-free pledge.

Before trying her new half-up look, the actress, 44, told PeopleStyle that she didn’t plan on parting with her signature bouncy blowout for the next 20 years.

“I think women once they hit 40, they shouldn’t put their hair up again until they’re 60,” she said. “I think in your 20s and 30s if you put it up you look great. Once you’re 40 you age yourself putting your hair up, and then 60 you’re already old, so you really need to look well put together, so just put it up.”

But proving that the prerogative of a woman is to change her mind, she accented her shell-pink Atelier Versace gown with a tightly pulled-back half-up do that had the look of a pony from the front but the flowing vibes she’s known for when she turned around.

And that wasn’t the only part of her look that took us for surprise. The star also took a break from her usual strapless gowns, instead opting for a beaded, one-shouldered number. And with zillions of carats worth of dazzling Lorraine Schwartz jewels, it was hard to look away.
