  • Stanley Tucci tells PEOPLE he'd be "happy" to reprise his role as art director Nigel Kipling in a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada
  • "I don't think fun would be the word," he says of the potential for filming a sequel, adding: "I think we would have one of the best times ever"
  • Tucci boasts that the original film's cast "was just this perfect combination of people, from [director] David [Frankel] to Meryl [Streep] to Annie [Hathaway], and Emily [Blunt], who's now my sister-in-law"

Stanley Tucci is all for reprising his role in The Devil Wears Prada.

In an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE, the actor, 63, opens up about once again starring as art director Nigel Kipling after it was announced earlier this year that a sequel to the 2006 film is reportedly in development.

"If it does happen, I can only say that I'll be happy," says Tucci, who is working with S.Pellegrino to launch his own namesake cheese "cake."

"I don't really know. I haven't [heard] about the plot or anything. I really haven't," the father of five continues.

The Devil Wears Prada is based on the book of the same name by Lauren Weisberger and follows Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), a recent college graduate eager to pursue a career in journalism.

After landing a role as a junior assistant for Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), the editor-in-chief of Runway, a fictional high-fashion magazine, Andy struggles to meet the demands of her job while maintaining her relationship with her boyfriend and coworkers, including Emily (Emily Blunt) and Tucci's Nigel.

According to Puck News, the plot of The Devil Wears Prada 2 would potentially follow Priestly, who is still the head of Runway, as she learns to navigate an increasingly digital magazine industry.

The follow-up film could also potentially follow the plot of the book sequel, Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns, released in 2013. That story takes years after the original and sees Andy and Emily come together as top magazine editors when Miranda comes sneaking back into Andy’s life.

When asked if reuniting with Streep, 75, Hathaway and Blunt, both 41, for The Devil Wears Prada 2 would be "fun," Tucci tells PEOPLE another feeling comes to mind.

"I don't think fun would be the word," he admits, adding: "I think we would have one of the best times ever."

"I've made many movies, I've probably made close to 100 movies, and I don't even know how many television episodes, but that experience was one of the greatest experiences I've ever had," Tucci continues.

"It was just this perfect combination of people, from [director] David [Frankel] to Meryl to Annie, and Emily, who's now my sister-in-law," adds the star. "It's just great."

While no casting news have been confirmed for The Devil Wears Prada 2 just yet, one project that Tucci does have lined up — and is excited for — is the release of his next book, What I Ate in One Year: (and Related Thoughts).

Detailing how the project came to be, Tucci says, "I didn't know what to write. The publishers wanted me to write something, but after I wrote the first book, I was like, 'I don't know what to write,' and my wife, who's a literary agent, said, 'Just write what you eat in one year,' and so I did."

"You start writing and stuff just comes out, because every time you write about food, it's a personal experience and it brings up other personal experiences or it brings up related memories from your childhood, about people who are no longer here anymore or friends who are but you don't see, and then writing about eating with the kids, cooking for the kids, my older kids, my little kids, I guess it shows the passage of time and love and loss through the prism of food," he continues.

What I Ate in One Year will be released on Oct. 15. The Devil Wears Prada 2 has yet to receive a release date, but the original is available for streaming on Max, Hulu and Prime Video.
