PEOPLE can confirm that a reboot of the popular series is in the early stages of development, following on from the original show’s end twelve years ago. Original stars Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton are expected to reprise their roles in the reboot as Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer and they will also be executive producing the project with former costar Danneel Ackles (who played Shannon McBain in the original show), per Variety. Bush and Burton, both 42, both appeared to post about the reboot on Instagram on Friday, Aug. 30, calling it a chance to “reclaim our turf” and “honor fans” “What if you really can go back home?” The actresses wrote in a joint message in separate posts. “If there’s an opportunity to team with brilliant creatives and build a space where all our friends can show off their talents? Own our history? Reclaim our turf? Honor our fans? Sign us up.” Sophia Bush shared a photo of herself with One Tree Hill former cast members on Instagram on Aug. 30. And you — the #OTHfam — have shown us that it’s not just an idea. It really is the place where “everything’s better and everything’s safe.” Alongside the message, Bush and Burton both shared a seemingly recent photo of the pair posing with Ackles, 45, and Bevin Prince (who also starred in the original series as Bevin Mirskey), with the trio, as the group embraced indoors. Behind them was a wall covered in flyers with ‘Tree Hill’s Local Showcase’ and ‘Ravens Cheerleader tryouts’ written on some of the posters, referring to One Tree Hill school, indicating the possibility that a scene was being filmed for the reboot.
